He is basically already sold, Atalanta has a cheap option to sign him.

Who can tell me more about Fiorentina's Lucas Martinez and Atalanta's Cristian Romero? I see Romero was nominated for best defender in Serie A?

Romero seems very promising. He was probably a slight surprise to win the defender of the year but every time I watched Atalanta play, he was a standout in their defence

Juventus had signed him from Genoa and then shifted him to Atalanta for whatever reason (financial), and it’s already seeming a poor move on our end

Romero is such a throwback. Hard-nosed, no nonsense and will absolutely get in your face.

Should fit right in at Juve. He's probably your next big defensive talent.

Sadly, Atalanta will purchase him from Juventus for just 16M this summer

I think he was signed and left on loan at Genoa and then Juventus bought De Ligt (and Demiral) while still having Bonucci and Chiellini, so he was the one sacrificed. Based on his characteristics, I think Romero under Allegri would have been fantastic

We don't have a buy back clause ?

To think we signed Romero for 26 millions in 2019 and he's not played a single game for Juve. Demiral whom the club chose ahead of him is now linked with Tottenham. Overall a terrible piece of business.

Easily one of our worst transactions in recent memory. Not because Romero is an immense talent but because he was purchased for 26M and sold at a loss without playing a single match for the club. Him performing well just cements it even more

I'm frankly a bit shocked at how badly Juve bungled this. They're kinda the standard in this league when it comes to transfers like this one.

Their loss is definitely Atalanta's gain though.

Wasn't Romero's transfer part of the general money laundering relationship with Genoa?

Pretty sure he was signed with inflated price while selling inflated players to Genoa for the whole financial year pluesvalenza stuff.

We basically exchanged Sturaro and Favilli for Romero.

Same as this year's Portanova, and the other youngster I forget, traded for part of Rovella's fee.

Still sold for too little to Atalanta considering it was an option to buy.

I figured Romero was actually a good piece of scouting but then once De Ligt was signed, it probably didn’t make sense to spend that kind of cash on Romero, De Ligt and Demiral while still having Chiellini, Bonucci and Rugani (lol)

It was good scouting but the prices with Genoa are always a bit inflated from these moves. Like Rovella's 28m.

Basically they chose Demiral over Romero after the loan season at Genoa.

To be fair Skriniar was clearly the best, even scored against Atalanta a Scudetto-goal , but evidently three Inter players as decorated were many so a bit of a variety

Anyway Romero had a great season too, it Is not even first time  for him. He already performed in Genoa during his first experience (but the second was negative)

He gives his best in the 3 men system defence and his style of game is based on anticipate the opponent, as many South American defenders. Infact he is impetuous at times

Avoided a fraud as Mihajlovic and signed a manager who was able fight for Scudetto

Thanks everyone. After your measured takes I have decided that Romero is a generational talent that will take Argentina to greatness. Looking forward to hyping him up having only watched him for 1 match in international duty. Much appreciated.

If you're talking about the top level, then Romero is nowhere near close to it. He's physical and good on the ball, but he's reckless an has no positional discipline. He managed to have a good season because he played in one of the few teams in the world in which he's flaws are not a problem while his qualities are an asset.
