it's true that it's  not enough to be the best player on paper   the election of the GOAT  ( I mean, Riquelme is the GOAT for Boca even though they had Maradona too) because we must consider different aspects .. and so yes, apparently Di Natale is the perfect proper name ... but Zico is something of too much big for a club as Udinese. Zico at Udinese. It sound so weird to me think it . Probably the most ' randomic' transfer ever for Serie A

I wonder what an Udinese fan 'd say . But probably Di Natale wins equally

Below is the statement that
support your bolded statement.

https://www.goal.com/en-us/news/3297/argentina/2010/11/15/2215236/boca-juniors-ideal-xi-the-best-of-the-bosteros

Juan Roman Riquelme, number 10 (1995-02, 2007-):

Only in Boca,
and only for this remarkable playmaker,
could Diego Maradona be relegated to second fiddle
.

In the Bombonera however it is Roman who rules the roost over the best player ever to step on a football pitch. Blessed with incredible control and vision and a right foot that seems trained to find a teammate no matter how unlikely the pass,
Riquelme was voted the greatest player of Boca’s history in a recent poll.

I know the tractor is a club legend and I regret him missing two world cups because of our dumb coaches having vastly inferior Jonás Gutiérrez and Scaloni playing as RB  (not to mention Maradona not inviting prime Cambiasso in 2010).

BUT I feel like as much as he was a true warrior for Inter, he wasn't their most talented - which he compensated by relentless hard work and leadership. But I guess being the most talented is not what this thread about. What does 'greatest' even mean?

i agree, it seems the goal post always shifts with respect to this. i personally don't buy into the thing of 'longest serving player equals the greatest player' nor do i buy into the 'most caps or most goals from someone who played way more years and minutes than others now becomes the best'....those are lifetime achievement type of stats. also don't buy maldini (great player in his own right) as ac milan's greatest player. their most loyal player; yes; most durable, yes.....but greatest? i dont know, that word gets thrown around loosely same with the word 'legend'.....maldini was definitely a legend though, no question

I feel the word "greatest" here is subjective.

It is about the thing that their club / fan appreciate.

Some appreciate top scorer player,
some appreciate most loyal player with most trophies,
some appreciate most talented player that won very important trophy (e.g. Champions League),
etc.
