Re: Europa League 20/21
Thats some scoreline, 6-2... geez, dont Roma have any pride? How many times is this now vs Man U they get raped?
I would be happy to have Partey to replace Busquets, come to Barca~
Question - why do everyone call Transition instead of counter attacking nowadays? It is the same thing or am I missing something?

Typical Bumery, bottles it even against rookie Arteta.

I reckon it's just the American screaming inside of McLewis to let him out.

Re: Europa League 20/21
Yeah it's an American term. I used it primarily to call out how slow we were to get back on defense.
Also @myesyats. It was less about pride and more about the reality of playing United for 50 minutes with no subs and 5 players injured. Pride has nothing to do with it tbh.

Re: Europa League 20/21
Is it though? Thought it was a standard term from football analysis
Refering to those 4 phases of play, with the ball, against the ball, and then the two transitions between those
German commentators and analysts use the German term "Umschalten" (switch from.. to..) all the time and transition is the English term for that isn't it
you hear it all the time
It's not quite the same as counter attack, but rather a counter attack is one version to play out an attacking transition?

Re: Europa League 20/21
Didn't know that actually. I hear it all the time on ESPN, particularly with NBA analysis, but even with MLS commentary. My coaches from back in the day used to use it as well.

Re: Europa League 20/21
Watched the highlights, Roma very unlucky with the players injured, and with a couple of those goals, I guess its another day of bad luck also.
Transition the word I dont know, Im outdated as always Just seems to be more used nowadays compared with before, and yes referring to the four phases, I'll learn and get use to its meaning asap hopefully

quick googling has these two results right at the top
https://thebootroom.thefa.com/resources/coaching/what-is-transition
https://app.thecoachingmanual.com/Content/13645
the way both claim "Focusing specifically on the moments between the two - also known as transition – is less common, but certainly no less important." and "Transitional play is often overlooked in coaching as most sessions that are delivered tend to look at either developing play with the ball or without it. " reminds me of standard academical practce - claiming that the topic you're going to write about is a neglected child of theory.
When usually, everybody is jumping on trend in academia tooo and then everybody is writing about the supposed neglected child while claiming in the introduction that "xyz has often been neglected".
If I look at Bundesliga football, it seems to me that attacking transition is all the DFB coaching seminars have been teaching for 15 years.

Re: Europa League 20/21
Some dignity regained. That's all I wanted. Incredible how many chances we missed. We were never going to keep a clean sheet though and that's what doomed us.
Just proves how disastrous that 2nd half was last week.

Re: Europa League 20/21
Not really tbh. They've got a solid and experienced spine (Albiol, Parejo, Moreno), and one exciting winger in Chukwueze who might not even make the final. They're a compact team, defend in a 4-4-2, look for counters, can keep the ball well enough without really threatening with it.
United should beat them well.

look at their squad ffs. Coquelin in midfield. 39 year old Raul albiol at the back. Their GK has 3 inch arms. barca legend paco alcacer leading the charge.
only thing going for them is Don Emery and his EL expertise.

Re: Europa League 20/21
Villarreal press and keep the ball well and for the most part the back 4 is very solid.
But Foyth, Chuck and Capoue are key players in my opinion. Unai also does the opposite of what you'd expect so often its a miracle they havent messed this up. I think they would have been eliminated if Arsenal werent so terible.
When he has you on the ropes, he removes the high pressure and drops into a 451...when they are holding on and struggling to keep the ball, he keeps the 442.
Against Utd I would expect 442 with that high pressure. But that may play a little into Utd's hands and therefore we could see the passive 451.
