Creativity, goal scoring, technique, hold up play, dribbling, footballing iq..

As much as he has been the best and most important player for us this season, tonight he wasn't the best player on the pitch.

It wasn't entirely his fault though because Tuchel knew exactly how to isolate him and nullify his danger.

Fo this game, I would put Modric, Cama and Vini in front of him.

Also, Carvajal had a very solid game which is something I haven't seen from him in a long time. It was nice to see glimpses of his 2014 self. He made some erros, but still.

One thing I’ll say about benzema. He is such a classy player. Doesn’t dive, rarely gets booked, doesn’t abuse the ref, doesn’t start fights with the opposing team, just plays the game clean and how it should be played

Its not a sure thing yet. If Madrid get knocked out in the semis and City/Liverpool win CL I can see De Bruyne or one of Salah and Mane winning.

Biggest robbery if he doesn't win the balon d'or this season.

The lead-up to this goal reminded me once again of how terrible football directing is. They always zoom in on the wide attacking player taking on the full-back and completely miss the off-the-ball movement happening elsewhere on the pitch. And don't even get me started on the unnecessarily long full-screen shot of players' faces after they missed a chance while a counterattack is being launched.

Or the replays at the worst time that make us miss potential goals or chances

Which is a shame because CL or not, Benzema has already outperformed all the other BdO contenders by a country mile.

Since the WC will not be taken into account here, the only scenario I can think of where Benzema may lose this BdO would be if either Liverpool or City wins the CL AND they also end up winning the PL as well. In that case, it will be very hard for France Football to snub a contender from a double-winning team and pick a La Liga winner instead.

But honestly, if we're talking strictly about individual performance here, double or not (heck treble or not), nobody in Europe deserves the BdO more than Benzema even if he ends up trophyless this year.
