Re: 2020 US presidential election
I think it’s fair to concede the election to Biden and to admit that Trump’s legal challenges will have no legal merit. Next worry is what nonsense will Trump and his true supports cause in the next two months.
However the democrats need to pay attention to these results. Not only did half the country vote against democrats and cut the house to a slim majority and left the senate in McConnell’s control, it is obvious a lot of Americans fear the Democrats. For you socialists here, you also should take note. There is no way, America is ready for a socialist agenda.
What Biden and the democrats need to do is govern thru the middle ground and restoring dignity.
They can be thankful that they have gotten rid of the wantabe dictator, the racist, the bully, etc etc!

Re: 2020 US presidential election
The biggest blocker to that is that McConnell is staying as the Senate leader, giving him the ability to block legislation no matter how small. Can't exactly govern through the middle when one side is not wiling to talk to you.
But if Purdue doesn't get 50% in Georgia (currently at 50.3%) then we'll have a run-off election in January, where we'll have another chance to reset the balance of power.

Yeah but only mail-in left in NV right? So I thought it was also safe even though it's tight currently.

Yeah that's right, sorry for rising warning bells, NV should be pretty safe.
AZ is also mostly main-in I think, but there is no blue bias there so it could still be up for grabs.

I've seen the opposite. Don't think the other way is that fun. They kept chanting stop the vote in Michigan while he was behind
Dumbest thing I've seen.

Pretty clear at least 48% of Americans are gullible idiots. We already knew that... the data now keeps supporting it.

Re: 2020 US presidential election
NEW: A source close to Mitch McConnell tells Axios a Republican Senate would work with Biden on centrist nominees but no "radical progressives" or ones who are controversial with conservatives. https://t.co/beI9692HkP
— Axios (@axios) November 5, 2020
The price for not doing well in the Senate races will be immediately felt for Biden and the Dems. McConnell wasting no time here.
This gives Biden the perfect pretense to put Republicans on his cabinet to bolster his "healing the nation" narrative.
It's been mooted that he could always just appoint "acting secretaries" like Trump did, but I don't think he has the spine to play hardball like that. It cuts against the above narrative anyway.
Deeply disappointing stuff for progressives, but we already knew it was going to be this way without a Dem-controlled Senate.

Re: 2020 US presidential election
Biden was never a progressive to begin with... he's a centrist through and through. So he would actually stay true to his core beliefs if he appoints centrists.
That's the way it always was btw when the US was a reasonable political country.

Re: 2020 US presidential election
Why am I reading that Trump could pull off a miracle win?
There can't possibly be a chance.
The only thing Obama for instance did better than Trump was behaving like a decent human being in public. Would have probably handled Covid better, but that's about it. Americans are truly idiots. Trump voter base are idiots because it consists of racist rednecks, and Trump opposers are truly idiots thinking they pulled something off removing a racist bigot from power. They're all the same...
Best president in decades.

Re: 2020 US presidential election
Well... Georgia is now unlikely. There are 60k votes left to count and Biden's behind by 18k. So Biden would need to get 2/3 of the remaining 60k to win by a few hundred lol.
Arizona and Nevada are not comfortable. Arizona is a very conservative state. I have worries there. Nevada is unpredictable as it doesn't lean one way or another.
So assuming a worse case, but not crazy, the outcome of Trump winning NC, Georgia, Nevada, and AZ... then it comes down to PA.
The problem with Pennsylvania is that the court, not the legislature, ruled to allow votes arriving AFTER Nov 3 to be counted (through Nov 6) as long as the ballot is postmarked by Nov 3. The Supreme Court will strike those votes down hard and justifiably so. That's a legislative issue, not a legal one... so the supreme court of PA likely had no jurisdiction to make such a ruling. Also, in terms of precedent, I don't think there's another state in the United States that allows votes that arrive after the Nov 3 cutoff to be counted, other than the military and foreign service votes. You can take your time to count ballots that have arrived by Nov 3... but not ones that arrived after.
I don't like it coming down to PA with a thin margin. That's the only lawsuit where the Trump legal team has a solid case.

Why the fuck does it take this long for a handful of states to count their votes? This is some poverty democracy.

They had to barricade themselves in. Both in Nevada and Arizona, Trump supporters were banging windows at count stations and creating havoc... so security measures had to be taken.
Wonderful place the US these days.
Also, most of the people counting are volunteers. They're doing it out of a sense of civic duty. Given the rules, the mail-in ballots are in paper. So you manually have to open the envelope, flatten it, scan it and then send it out to get validated... after all that, a vote gets counted. There is not federally mandated method. There are legal guidelines and each state has its own implementation policy.
Reason for this is that you can't hack all these disparate voting places. It's not centralized. It's clunky... but given where we are with Russian meddling, it's a good thing.

Re: 2020 US presidential election
Seeing now that Nevada looks more and more certain with the slim margin for Biden widening slightly as more votes are counted.
Georgia also looks possible since Biden has been winning these mail votes by the ratio necessary to flip the state. Going to be very close.

Very wise words, whatever dems did 50% of the population didn't agree with. They have to work on that. Trump's legal challenge is real in Pennsylvania (according to Reuters here). They say the court which allowed counting votes past november 3rd didn't have the authority to do so.
It looks like Biden might win Nevada and Arizona together, then the result in PA won't matter anyway.

Re: 2020 US presidential election
No... if you understand the basics of constitutional law, you know for a fact that Trump's legal actions have no chance of working other than in PA. That's just a matter of fact.
Also, you need to understand what districts the votes are coming from in each state. For example, in Nevada, 73% of the votes are from Clark County and it's 53% Biden and 45% Trump. The state has reported 89% of its ballots while that county is at 88%. The next big county there is Washoe County (12% of the total state vote) and it's 51% Biden.
Final thing is that all the "in-person" votes have been counted all around the country. That's finished. The only parts left are mail-in votes and military votes. The overwhelming majority of mail-in votes are for Biden for obvious reasons.
My only concern in terms of votes is Arizona. It's very conservative and older (retirement state). So the mail-ins could simply be that older people can't physically go to vote. So it's uncertain, in this particular case, what direction the mail-in will swing.
So it is looking very likely that Biden wins if Arizona stays on course. Otherwise, it comes down to PA which will be extremely close AND where Trump has a legit legal case. Votes received after Nov 3 have a good chance of getting thrown out... remains to be seen how many of those there are and if they would impact the result.

Vote counting always takes long, but usually definitive calls are made earlier.
Media seem extra careful, downright hesitant to call states this time after polls have been unreliable.
What's the exception this year, with Fox News being alone in calling Arizona on election night, is usual otherwise.
In reality Biden has long since won this election.

Nope, he didn't (reality is usally factual ). He is likely though.

He has. The votes that are being counted have already been cast. That is factual, it's done.

US TV commercials are so oddly specific
you are supposed to call a TELEPHONE NUMBER to get informed about a specific combination of two cancer drugs?
