But in all seriousness, I think we need 2 wingers at this stage. Pedro is 100% gone, and Willian is out of contract and doesn't want to sign the deal offered. CHO and Puli are still young so bringing in a prime Ziyech makes sense even if we try for Sancho, too. I'm not convinced we'll sign Sancho, anyway.

I'm happy with the deal, it's cheaper than Zaha would be and allows us to pour more money into a CF, LB and possibly another winger.

Is he better than Zaha though? Not sure, not to mention that the type of players Zaha is, pacy, dribbler, will always be more expensive

Mate, Ziyech has better stats in the CL than Zaha does in the PL.

Zaha has 6 goals+assists in 25 games in the PL Where Ziyech has 18 goals+assists in 27 CL games over the last two seasons.

I honestly rate Ziyech as a better player than Zaha.

This guy guarantees assists and goals ... he has the best left foot I have ever seen since messi, robben.

Primarily plays as RW but he can also play as AM. Got incredible eye for goal, visionary, his technique is second to none. Like every time I see Ajax play domestically or in CL he either guarantees goal or assists and is main man behind creating build up for goal. Calm and composed in front of goal, doesn't get fazed a bit under pressure.Also Ziyech is the only player i could think of who has got one of the best goal / assist ratio out there

plus i find it so hard to believe that he was sold for just 33 million pounds... he had just signed extention ... after AS ROMA (monchi) screwed up (he was gone to roma before deal was abandoned)

It's not too surprising. At times if there's interest in our players we offer them a better contract and that we'll let them leave for a reasonable or good price if they stay for a bit longer. Ziyech stayed far longer than we could've expected and it's not like there were no offers for him at all so I think it's only fair we didn't block the move by asking for a massive fee.

I would've probably expected something like 45 rising to 50m euros (so roughly 37.5 - 41.5m pounds).

Ziyech clearly doesn't look like he wants to play for Everton or Aston Villa otherwise he would have gone already. If he hadn't left until today, with such a low price, it's clearly because too many clubs see the type of slim and slender playmaker he is as one they don't want to accomodate.

It's a tough world out there when you leave the Cruyff eco system, football isn't the same, and recent history suggest this type of player needs a dedicated DM to support him. Top clubs are not exactly trying to sign players with his profile nowadays.

Ziyech puts in a hell of a defensive shift and runs his ass off all game. He has his weaknesses. Defending is not one of them.

i thought quite the opposite. i actually thought half the europe will lineup for him
look at how ajax plays ... they play as if they got absolutely nothing to loose and everything to gain .... in those open games with so much vulnerabilities on his own team in terms of defense, ziyech makes it work...
i dont think it was because of his weakness in physicality really

it just so happened that he had interests that didnt materalize he stayed loyal to club and extended he didnt even make a fuss about it. infact he said if ajax wanted him long enough he would stay just fine

ajax has business model to follow plus, they kept him long enough that they feel like they owe ziyech if he wanted to leave.. it was a mutual decision between club and player to stay that long and now on good terms.

out of frustation he extended to stay at ajax in return... which he stated last july

i feel like there must have been some mutual understanding that if top club call coming he would be allowed to leave on mutual terms so ajax didnt ask hefty

meanwhile for donny its a bit different reason ...  atm i cant think of anyone better than donny who can cover if he leaves and ajax needs him
