Re: Frenkie De Jong
Just watched the Napoli games, and very impressed with him, he does look like hes a great fit to us, and better showing than any of our existing midfielders in them, especially Busquets who has been awful. I think Busquets is having some confidence issues as well, otherwise its hard to understand such a rapid decline, I mean hes only 29 I think?
Anyway, I imagine them two are going to retate and if their form is like it is today De Jong must be the first choice with Busquets for rotations.

Re: Frenkie De Jong
I'm not sure if he's compatible with Arthur. If you want to play then both, I think Coutinho or Aleñá should play as the other midfielder to provide some sort of creativity and penetration otherwise this midfield is only good at keeping possession but no real penetration.

Re: Frenkie De Jong
Massive performance from him. He's growing a lot. It's a shame he has to be paired up with Roberto and Rakitic but at least there's something to look for come next season.

Re: Frenkie De Jong
FDJ, Aleñá and Puig. Midget midfield trio
The more I learn about Pjanić the less I think he will be any good for Barça. But still prefer him to that one trick donkey Farthur.

I hope we still sign someone this window. Can't afford to have Roberto starting in midfield next season

Re: Frenkie De Jong
I like how he rated his season 5 or 6 out of 10, seems like he'll be his own biggest critic, but wants to keep improving.

Feeling sorry for this guy. Had every top team in the world after him and chose the worst option. RIP his career.

He's finally settled in. In a shaky period for the team as this one, he has emerged as a leader

I think he's doing well with the squad he has at hand, yes
He abandoned his stupid 4-2-3-1 formation, so there have been changes tactics-wise as of late which means he learns and adapts.

I read your post in the Covid thread, and it just reminded me of how easily people are influenced by spurs of the moment, random impulses, and whatever hysteria the mainstream media want people to believe in.
I mean, most of us are probably aware of how these things work, and that knee-jerk reactions undermine what’s most important, which is the bigger picture, but it doesn’t seem to stop people from jumping to conclusions based on little definite evidence, over and over again.
I literally laughed out loud when I logged onto this forum around december of last year, to find that some of our members we’re boasting «we’re back» after Hazard’s short burst of form took us from looking like complete shit, to looking decently impressive for 2-3 matches in a row. I suppose the ones who thought we were back at that point in time had the last laugh, since we somehow managed to win the league despite being as awful as we were throughout the season.
I don’t want to sound pretentiously «woke», but I had honestly expected all of our members to have moved past the knee-jerk phase by now. Trial and error should’ve taught us to be more patient. Then again, I suppose it’s all part of the banter of charm of this community.

Re: Frenkie De Jong
The issue with this is that many people, including myself, post and say things before evaluating them a little bit and then go back later and think to ourselves, "Well, maybe I would have worded that differently".
The "OLE IN, OLE OUT" jokes are kind of an embodiment of that. It's a reminder that sometimes it's better to refrain from posting something in the heat of the moment and just sleep on it. That's especially valuable advice in real life when you have tough decisions to make, but on GL who cares really to be fair, it's what brings the laughs and the banter.
But as far as me praising De Jong, its not a heat of the moment thing, I've been fond of him from the start but now its clear he grew under Koeman, doesn't lose any balls and you can see he has matured. In the past few games Ive observed a consistency from him where he is able to maintain that level of focus you expect from world class players. But with young players its always a gamble, although I'm the optimistic type of guy when it comes to developing players.

Re: Frenkie De Jong
I agree with everything you say, but in the case of GL, I don’t always get the impression that these reactions are in the name of banter. If anything, «it was just banter bro» is an excuse for poor judgement a lot of these impulsive overreactions have lead to in-depth discussions on here, especially in the RM section, and I’ll never understand why.
As for FDJ, I think he’s always looked like a solid player with good potential, but I don’t think Barca, nor RM have been particularly good homes for young talents to grow in, in recent years. I imagine many of our young starters would’ve adapted and developed more smoothly in a club with a more stable environment and lower expectations, but it is what it is.
