This is an exceptional case though, for many reasons:

1. They know Madrid have their backs against the wall and are desperate to overhaul the squad ( which means they can't afford to wait another year for Hazard to come for free and risk having another trophy-less season)

2. They realize that there's no other established winger available in the market (which means Madrid has no other choice if they want to get an elite winger from the get-go)

4. Hazard would cost at least 160m in this inflated market if his contract was still running beyond 2020.

3. They don't need the money and would rather keep him for another year

So any leverage clubs normally get with their target in the final year of their contract doesn't apply here because Chelsea will simply tell you to go eff yourself if you try to lower the price.

If you try to threaten them to abandon the pursuit and get him for free next year, they'll again tell you to go eff yourself because they don't need your money, they aren't looking to sell and would rather keep him.

I hope to god they are. But so far, there has been no solid rumor from any reliable news outlet linking him to Madrid.

Knowing Madrid though, there's a high possibility they will turn a blind eye to him and stick to one of the numpties they have right now. Or worse, go for a cheaper option.

I had thought it was going to be Pogba or Eriksen plus Ndombele replacing both Kroos and Modric. But with extensions of both Of them, it’s is doubtful what they will do. It sure sounds like no to Ndombele and at best it’s one of Eriksen or Pogba with Modric doing a rotational role. Not sure at this point if it’s wishful thinking or not. The only real possibilities are that Ceballos, Llorente and probably Isco will go. It looks like the so called revamped midfield will see only backups gone?

Why would I be upset over the club signing Hazard? Sure, it's not ideal at all how it is being done but it's Hazard. And not pre 2016 Hazard either but clearly a more mature version.

I'm not blind to Hazard as I've watched him. He is not solely carry us to trophies as it'll still be down to team effort/Barcelona fking up but I rather see my club overspend on Hazard than see us beg City for Sane. Or another fucking minute of Bale and Vasquez doing numpty things. Or whatever Utd is up to these days.

Chelsea are also facing a transfer ban, that is also factoring in.

imo he is worth every penny, anytime you have the oppertunity to sign one of the best in the world you win. Madrid are not hurting for money, they also have some overrated assets they can sell. Covacic and Assensio for example.

Never understood why some fans care about club spending, the only time i care is when we spend on a player i do not.
