I have to say this, Modric has been massively overrated this tournament.

His last great performance was against Argentina, he wasn't anything special against Denmark and Russia and against England he wasn't even Croatia's best midfielder lol.

Honestly reminds of the tournament where everyone lost their minds over Pirlo acting like they'd never seen him play before.

Yeah I agree Mole... because Pogba was the main creator on the attack AND was the defensive hold mid on the right side. Kante was mostly helping Matuidi and Hernandez. Pogba did it on his own.

Shame on Mourinho honestly. What a travesty in terms of using this guy.

Yep Varane has really progressed into a WC CB, I think Umtiti is close too. Pogba definitely finally proved anyone wrong I think now, there should be no more doubters about him.

Hard to imagine if France can continue dominating for so much longer since they have done so for a few years now, but with all the young players they have now, its a real possibilty.

Yeah, i dont think Modric was good in this final. Im surprised they gave him the golden ball, it was almost like a political recompense.

While there were no clear outstanding player this world cup, Mbappe overall played better in the knockout stages imo. Hazard just behind him, and then modric. just my 2 cents.

You don't dominate football by winning trophies at the NT level. Too many variables. Making finals and semis consistently and getting a couple of trophies is domination at this level.

We'll see how hungry everyone remains, how we evolve, etc.

Congratulations to France! Totally deserved. I wanted Croatia to win for Modric's sake, but they didn't play as well and as efficiently as France.

@GLS doesn't that apply to mbappe too? well all in all, the media can turn you to be what they want you to be. you can either be a hero or a villian. Modric deserves the Golden ball especially as regards the team he's in imo

Player of the tournament should have gone to Mandzukic who scored in 3/4 ko games and actually was quality in all 4 of them. Lack of goals in the group stage cost him.

this is the first world cup i've witnessed where i really don't know who should get the golden ball. in any of the latter stages of the knockout rounds, (which to me are what really matters), i don't think i was really wowed. mbappe had that game against argentina and that was it. there where also guys who low key played well e.g. pogba and he played well in the final. modric was good but i don't know about golden ball good. i'm not sure on this one. for the record i felt robben should have got it last world cup, and david villa in the one before

I agree but I don’t think there was a clear standout player this tournament. I guess they assumed he was the safest option. It also helps with the fact that they want the golden ball winner to take pictures before the trophy presentation.

Agree with Mole. He has been nowhere near the best for France.

Pogba, Kante and Varane are top 3 for me. Mbappè outshone him in attack.
