It's overrated for more reasons than that too imo.

Shooting percentages straight up ignore volume and and they straight up ignore when they go in and whether it mattered or not.

The whole thing is insanely misleading imo.

Stats can be misleading, especially advanced statistics because they obviously ignore context and they assume far too much

My biggest issue is when a player moves from team A to team B and with 'A' they are the number one scoring option and on team 'B' they become the third scoring option and you have people who don't understand that.

One of my favourite things about our beloved sport [not basketball], is we only really pay attention to goals and assists- and sometimes too much, but at least we can stray slightly away from statistic based arguments because anyone can quote a whoscored rating but only some of us can go on a rant of why player A is better than player B.

I think advanced stats do take this stuff into account though.
