I wouldn't say it came out of nothing. We missed sitters, Kepa had great saves, their CBs cleared the ball of the line 2 times. Our attack isn't good at finishing atm. Van Dijk, Alisson & Robertson world class. Gomez is shaky, he's not first team material yet if you ask me, the goal came from his side.

City game will really interesting, especially since it's at Anfield but I'm pretty glad that Spurs, Chelsea and City are done in the first 8.

I don't know, yes we did make a few chances but I just think Chelsea were better organized etc than us.

Re: LFC Season 2018/2019
We had a lot of great chances and it would have been undeserved if we lost to Chelsea today, and we played at their ground. We conceded a goal by the most in form player in the league.
Keita showed in 15 minutes today that he has more creativity than any of our midfielders, he is great whenever he gets the chance to play. Milner, Gini and Hendo are all great players to have but they are too similiar, with 3 of them at the same time we lack the creativity. The sooner Klopp starts playing Keita and Fabinho the better.
Van Dijk is world class, so is Alisson. Unfortunately, our right side of the defence is much weaker than our left side. TAA can be great offensively but he was caught out by Hazard today, that's why I would start Clyne in these games who is a great defensive fullback, Clyne was great vs Chelsea in the cup a few days ago. Gomez is still too young.
Overall it was a great match for the spectators, I think people enjoyed it. This has to be match of the season so far if you ask me.

Re: LFC Season 2018/2019
Our attack has been wasteful this season, that is worrying. We just can't finish our chances.
I have to say though, Fekir was a big miss in the summer. I think a player like him could be a great player to have in this team. Ox's injury is a big miss as well. It wouldn't hurt to play Keita more often either.

Re: LFC Season 2018/2019
I think making any singular game as the bench-mark could be deceiving. The season before last we practically drove through the T6 teams while finishing 4th. City were 'not so cruising' for large stretch of the season yet became champions in that fateful season under Rodgers.
Rather, if we can rack-up 30-33 points in another 6-7 games, it will be difficult not to consider ourselves as serious contenders.

Re: LFC Season 2018/2019
I think if we are ahead 3 points off City after that match then it will be a really good sign. Because now we are joint top with City while they only played relegation fodder (except Arsenal) and we have played Spurs, Chelsea, Leiceister, Palace all away games.
After our match with City we will have played Spurs, Chelsea, City the 3 toughest teams in the league and we will have an easier schedule upcoming than City who will have to face big teams after us. That's why I think that match is important but ofcourse anything can happen, the season is not 7 games long.

Re: LFC Season 2018/2019
Salah is obviously getting more attention compared to last season and that is why missing those chances because of that extra pressure. But defenders are better prepared now and are playing cautiously against him, they are taking their chances and trying to make it as difficult as possible for him. So he needs to develop even a stronger mentality and figure out how to be ruthless in those situations. He is just an inch away every match to replicate last season's form for us so it is all on Klopp now, how he handles him.
The first goal to concede is the worst one we have in this season so far. We pick a midfield of Milner, Gini and Hendo so that we close our spaces properly and press so that other teams do not get an outlet so easily. What is the use of sacrificing creativity (in terms of Keita or Shaq in 4 -2-3-1) if they do not perform their job properly. When you play such a high line, you are bound to concede few chances on such kind of runs behind the defence lines.
On the other side, that draw was absolutely vital for the momentum and players confidence going ahead in the season. Win against PSG in the last stage of the game, a cracking goal from Studge in the dying minutes of such an important game against Chelsea will shape this team's mentality brilliantly so that they sustain this long challenging season.

I agree, scoring a late winner against PSG and then a late equalizer against Chelsea just shows the great mentality of this team.

Re: LFC Season 2018/2019
The match with City is an important one on psychological plan.
We are level on points with City, but let's compare our schedules:
-Liverpool had the toughest schedule, in first 8 games we had away games to Tottenham, Chelsea, Palace and Leiceister, and home game to City. We also had PSG and will have Napoli in the CL. If we beat Napoli (that's a big IF though) we are pretty much through the group stage.
-Manchester City had Arsenal(who were still getting used to Emery) and then Huddersfield, Wolves, Newcastle, Cardiff, Fulham, Brighton. Can we even compare our schedules?
-Chelsea had Huddersfield, Arsenal, Newcastle, Bournemouth, Cardiff, West Ham and Liverpool. Slightly tougher than City's but not even close to ours.
What happens after the NT break:
-Liverpool has games against Huddersfield, Cardiff, Arsenal, Fulham, Watford, Everton, Burnley and Bournemouth. HUGE CHANCE to stack a lot of points. Liverpool won't have league cup, and in the CL will have 2 back to back games against Red Star.
-Manchester City will have games against Burnley, Tottenham, Southampton, United, West Ham, Watford, Chelsea. They will have an away game in Ukraine in CL and league cup.
-Chelsea will have games against United, Burnley, Palace, Everton, Tottenham, Fulham, Wolves and City. And thursday games in the europa league, they drew to West Ham the week they had an away game to PAOK in EL.
That's the difference between the schedule from the start and the schedule that's awaiting for us and our rivals. That's our big chance, imagine if we beat City, then stack a lot of points from that schedule and go into the 2nd half of the season from the 1st place that we all dreamed about, the momentum and enthusiasm our team will have will be big. Liverpool is hungry for premier league success, we have a chance to pretty much progress from the group stage on wednesday against Napoli, then hopefully win against City and play good with the schedule we have and if we take advantage of that schedule and go into 2nd half from 1st place, then from january every game will be like a final, a spectacle. We can do it.

Lineup against Napoli
Starting XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Wijnaldum, Milner, Keita; Salah, Mane, Firmino
Substitutes: Mignolet, Lovren, Moreno, Fabinho, Henderson, Shaqiri, Sturridge
In what world Moreno gets picked ahead Clyne???

Man don't even blame our defense, our attack was the problem all day, Salah left Trent exposed every play.
Deadset that front three is choking so hard right now, barley looked like they could muster a chance.
Draw would of been perfect, but now this opens up the group, need psg to do us a solid now.

Lads the problem is the players are starting to fold under the pressure of expectation. Liverpool have been falling over the line in nearly every game we have played sofar. The city players go on the pitch thinking we are the best team and we are gonna have some fun today. The Liverpool players look like they just need to somehow get a result and they are not playing with a smile on their faces.

City got dismantled by Lyon at Etihad and won vs Hoffenheim because of a mistake from Hoffenheim's CB in 90th minute. They looked average against every decent opponent they faced this season.

Let’s see how Liverpool get on against them at the weekend. I will have a friendly bet that we get rolled over.BusterLfc wrote:Unique wrote:Lads the problem is the players are starting to fold under the pressure of expectation. I agree except for Trent, he's been poor all season now both offensively and defensively. He's overhitting almost every cross and gets caught out of position a lot. Not playing like last season at all. Gomez for me has been great so far and for me our defence should be Robertson-Van Dijk-Gomez-Clyne.
I agree that our attack has been poor though and that is a big problem, last season we were also poor until late october/early november so if it continues like this things aren't looking too good lmao.
Another thing I think we are missing is Coutinho or Oxlade type of player who will drive that ball and connect with our attack we don't have that type of player with Ox's injury now and the attack maybe doesn't have enough support from midfield. There is not enough creativity in Gini-Hendo-Milner midfield. Keita is certainly our most creative midfielder and maybe he can fill that role but he hasn't been starting lately and got injured tonight. I forgot about Lallana but you never know with his injuries too.

Re: LFC Season 2018/2019
So after 3 years of planning and a big investment in the team this summer how good do you think we are. I think we are much better than we were when klopp first came in but on the world stage I don’t think we are that great tbh. Sure we sometimes beat teams up 4-5 nill and look good and we do play good football but yet again this season we fold in the big pressure games. It’s been that way since klopp came and I have absolutely no confidence in this team winning any kind of trophy.
