Roma executed their game plan quite well other than that own goal. They also got some decent chances on the counter as well. they probably will continue with the same strategy

Its part of Valverde's tactic really. He likes to give the opponent a bit more of the ball, creating more space in between the lines for Busi, Alba, Iniesta and Messi to find eachother and run into spaces. Problem this season really is the lack of width, wich Coutinoh and Dembele make up for in La Liga games, but unable to do so in CL ofcourse.

Messi was trying too hard to score, probably a result of the Ronaldo phenomenon from yesterday Very Happy

All in all the expected comfy win and we are going through.

Sad to see Gomes again in the end and yet his first pass is a direct pass to an opponent lol, and his next action is fouling, man this guy belongs in another sport.

Im sure Messi will score in the return leg.

I would love to draw Liverpool if they go through next round, would be a rare match up I think and fresh entertaining game.

As always, I don't like focusing on ref decisions. It is what it is. We don't have the prestige in this comp to expect to be winning penalties at a venue like Camp Nou. The own goals were extremely unlucky tbh. We also missed some good chances that we needed to put away. The scoreline is rather unkind to us as a result due to some bad defensive mistakes. Not surprised.

The away goal is good. We caused problems today and I think we'll cause more next week. I don't think it will be enough to trouble Barca's passage to the next round, but we acquitted ourselves pretty well.

Alisson was horrible tbh

Barcelona is a superior team to Roma, but many of the pundits on radio here were convinced that to have a chance, Roma had to score an early first goal. The ref's bad decision on the obvious penalty on Dzeko in the area ruled out the early goal for Roma and the game went on as everyone predicted absent that early goal.

To their credit, our players didn't look too afraid of Barca for long stretches of the match. Keeping Messi off the scoresheet has to count for something.

Like I said though, no one had us going through anyway so with nothing to lose and all things considered, we played a better game than the scoreline reflects.

If Barca play like this again and we get Under and Nainggolan back for the 2nd leg, we might just cause them even more problems. The harder we make progression for them, the better we'll acquit ourselves as we go out of the comp.

Also regarding Alisson, yeah he had a poor game overall. His first truly bad game of the season. Could've picked a less important match to have a stinker, but whatever.

Still one of the best keepers around at the moment. This changes nothing in my book.

That said, Ter Stegen's save on Defrel was positively otherworldly. Great stop.

Does it really, I mean Messi was in heart of all first three goals? But it did seem your players were mostly instructed to shut him down. I thought Barca played bad too, but in the end you made it too easy for us.

Yeah, Roma wasn't good at all and the own goals weren't 'bad luck', they were just a result of high pressure and those goals would have came one way or another anyway.

Also, you can't start Dzeko up front and expect to eliminate Barca
