You know, after watching Billic teams over the years. I have no idea what exactly his style is. What exactly is he good at?
How does he even have a career?

Re: Premier League 17-18 Discussion Part 3
DOUCOUREEEEEE 1-1
Btw what's happened to Chelsea? I watched from the 30 minute mark and Chelsea, about 80% of the time they recovered the ball would try and play it long to Morata or Pedro and lose it immediately. Do they not trust their midfielders on the ball or what? The other 20% of the time they kept the ball and looked alright, and actually tried to impose themselves.
Neither team had many good chances until Watford scored since I started watching, but Watford looked the much likelier team the whole time. Maybe Chelsea looked good before that, but I thought they were shocking. Curious to see what the second half brings.
Much different from the tactically flexible, dynamic, and fluid Chelsea side from last season.

Their starting 11 is great. Rest not so much. Fatigue a big factor and Watford high on confidence.

Re: Premier League 17-18 Discussion Part 3
The league was crap last year lol, it's literally the only reason combined with they had zero European commitments.
It's Mourinho's season after winning the title all over again, literally it's exactly the same.
Not to mention they didn't strengthen at all, which is one thing you should never do. Go through out history in the PL, pretty much every successful team who didn't push on got worse.

Re: Premier League 17-18 Discussion Part 3
As for Chelsea's struggles, I think the simplest answer is regression to the mean.
Likes of Luiz, Cahill, Moses, Alonso and Pedro over-performed relative to their actual ability. They've returned to their normal levels but Chelsea have nobody to replace them in the team, which is possibly why Conte was so upset about their transfer business.
Even Morata despite his goals is actually over-performing, in that some of his goals have come from low percentage chances.

Yep even Conte said pre season that they had players playing at 120% last season and it won't happen again.
He knew.

What's wrong with Chelsea? It's not like they are missing key players.

Re: Premier League 17-18 Discussion Part 3
Conte is trying to push the blame on someone other than himself tbh
I buy regression to the mean. Everyone saw last season that Chelsea's wins looked unsustainable, but they kept winning. It was a Leicester all over again, and it was very frustrating to watch for Spurs.
But surely they shouldn't be this bad? They're getting destroyed by Watford right now, they've been awful for a while now. I've asked this twice now (partially because I keep expecting a Chelsea comeback) and so far no one wants to say anything about Conte. I think he was manager of the year last year and I think he's a good manager, but this is past a regression to the mean, this is a swing in the other direction.
It's not just results, it's how they're playing.

Regression to the mean is a good shout, they dont have a talented squad, and their title last season looks closer to Leicester, than one of their great team of hold.
