Re: Granada vs Real Madrid
If Morata had shown this kind of game earlier in the season and be consistent, he would have benched Benz by now. Excellent game 40 mins in. Haven't seen this kind of Morata all season.
Then again, this is granada. Relegation fodder.
The nuisances of scrub killers who do not evolve further.
Coentrao is equally impressive but considering the opposition, not sure if anything can be taken from game.

Re: Granada vs Real Madrid
No he wouldn't. Benz plays worse now than he did earlier in the season and Morata still can't get in. It's painfullu obvious that ZZ has no interest in benching him. I used to moan before, I am in the acceptance stage now. When Ronaldo hits a drop in form on the other hand.......

Re: Granada vs Real Madrid
I think Zidane looks at the fact that Benzema and CR have built a relationship that is difficult to break. Benzema does everything in his power to feed CR.
I understand that Zidane does not want to break it so late in the season. The few instances of playing CR and Morata together were not promising.
Anyhow, that partnership needs to be broken in profit of someone who is way more productive that Benzema, that's for sure

Re: Granada vs Real Madrid
completely agreed with nick, and I am with Zidane as I wouldn't break the partnership this late either, this is not the time to experiment.
Next season we can ditch benz from first team or whole team and can have mbappe and Cr7 accopy the LW and CF area.
but we still need a dribbler on the right side to create stuff and I hope somehow we sell bale and get dembele -not hazard- as dembele is better on the right and much younger.
other then that, a LB and dual lorente's and we are done unless we replace danilo too with semedo or cancelo or bellern.

You ignoring variables. In this game Morata is the main threat. Benz role will always be support. CR7 and Bale are higher up the attacking priority. Benz job isn't scoring. Same for Morata if Cristiano Ronaldo and Bale are starting. Morata shining in the absence of the BBC should be a shock to nobody. No CR7 or Bale to take away the focus.
I like CR7's game against atletico madrid but at this point I'm not sure I'm really starting to doubt whether we play better with or without the BBC. Granada is granada but our b team looks a lot better than the A team in la liga. Should be the other way around.
@nick you finally getting a little bit of the bigger picture huh. Such variables often ignored by fans are actually critical for the coach to consider. Cristiano prefers to have a support over one who takes the ball away from him. I've learned to accept CR7's pros and cons a long time ago.
Personally I don't think this will change until Cristiano Ronaldo leaves.
Re: Granada vs Real Madrid
Only Morata scores with Ronaldo around too. In fact the whole Morata and Ronaldo can't work together is a big myth. There was ample chance to beeak it up as early as November but nope nothing was done

Re: Granada vs Real Madrid
Anyways comfortable game. Granada started creating chances when Casemiro went off. Llorente nees to get his ass here pronto
Nice first half. Thought Asensio was abit anonymous, Lucas, James and Morata were great

If that was true, Morata would be a starter since January.
Benzema is having an undeniably Bad season but Morata didn't take advantage during the first half of the campaign.
He had his chances just didn't take them. Though should also consider cr7. Kommander likes his supports. Oh well.
Benz needs to find his form and fast.
Re: Granada vs Real Madrid
If this was about takin their chances. Benzema shouldn't start either way. Ronaldo should be our CF then. Or even James or Isco as a false 9 or SS.
The fact is Benzema isn't being judged on the same criterias as his competitors for the starting spot. He hasn't scored in 7 games. And despite him not scoring goals, he has actually looked even worse than his stats suggests. There's no reason for him to start at all.
The argument against Morata is that he isn't scoring when he starts. But his competitor doesn't score, doesn't assist and he sure as hell doesn't put any effort into his game at all.
It's so frustrating.

Re: Granada vs Real Madrid
Benzema doesn't score in easy, medium or hard La Liga games. The man has been absolute rubbish all season in Spain and yet, would start every major and semi minor match in La Liga while Morata, who actually has been productive, wonders what life would be under Conte.
There is no meritocracy involved when it comes to Big Ben in La Liga. None. That being said, his UCL contributions are still pretty good.

Re: Granada vs Real Madrid
We're yet to see a 5 man midfield with kroos, Modric kovacic, asensio and isco ffs. Kovacic, Isco and Asensio have been consistently great since like January. Ronaldo would probably bang hattricks every game he plays

Re: Granada vs Real Madrid
midfield is only one vertical player lol, why would Zidane do that?

Re: Granada vs Real Madrid
Midfield is the least of our concerns. All our problems can be solved by just benching ONE of the BBC and playing another midfielder

Re: Granada vs Real Madrid
Probably our toughest game left. We get a win there and we have definitely won the league
Get a draw and the pressure is back on us. Lets see how todays game turns out for Barca. Valladolid are another one of those PTB teams but they have nothing to play for so who knows

Re: Granada vs Real Madrid
Zidane literally chooses the worst possible game to try his 5 man midfield. This is a must win so we can wrap the title up.

Re: Granada vs Real Madrid
IMO, At this point Zidane can choose a lineup out of any of 16 players and get same result. This team is now functioning the way most of us have wanted for past 3 years.

We have no alpha up top, so crowding the midfield might not be such a bad idea
