as much as I hate this guy, there is no denying that he is scoring in Serie A week in week out at this age

Re: Cristiano Ronaldo is the GREATEST OF ALL TIME. Now Sit down and STFU
The final 2019/20 Serie A table showed that Juventus won the title by just one point, as they finished the season on 83 points, one more than Inter and only five more than both Atalanta and Lazio.
Since the first of their nine straight titles in 2011/12, Juventus had never been run so close. They had finished four points clear on three occasions, nine points clear twice, 11 once, and had won the title with a 17-point cushion twice.
Although the Serie A table showed that just one point separated Inter and the Bianconeri, the feeling in Italy was different. In reality, they had wrapped the title up early enough that they could afford to switch off in the final few rounds.
Maurizio Sarri was sacked and replaced by Andrea Pirlo, just over a week after he had been given his first-ever coaching job with the club's Under-23 squad. So far, it hasn't all been smooth sailing for the former midfielder, and his Juventus sit third in the table, behind both Inter and AC Milan, and their stranglehold on the Scudetto looks more likely than ever to end this season.
This newfound competition at the top of Serie A could be put down to the improvement of other sides. Milan, Inter, Atalanta, and Lazio have undoubtedly strengthened in the last couple of seasons, but Juventus have been in steady decline.
Cristiano Ronaldo's 2018 arrival was supposed to catapult them to even higher highs. They had won seven Serie A titles on the bounce, but fallen short in the Champions League and twice lost out in the final.
If anything, though, the Portuguese has hamstrung them. They've won both Serie A titles since he joined, but they've become less of a force in Europe, and even in other domestic competitions.
Beyond his astronomical salary, Juventus' style has gone from being focused on the collective to revolving around their No.7.
No individual player was ever bigger than Juventus, even outstanding talents like Paul Pogba, Carlos Tevez, Paulo Dybala, and Pirlo himself. Now, the Old Lady resemble one of Italy's more provincial teams, doing all they can to feed their big name to get him on the scoresheet.
Their reliance on Cristiano Ronaldo has become worrying, and until Federico Chiesa's late strike in the recent 2-1 loss at Porto, no player other than the Portuguese had scored a Champions League knockout goal in the six games played since his arrival in 2018.
From boasting a star-studded midfield with Pogba, Pirlo, Claudio Marchisio and Arturo Vidal, it could be argued that Milan, Inter, Atalanta, and Lazio now all have more strength in their midfields.
Juventus' dominance of Italian football looks to be ending, at least temporarily. But their struggles this season aren't a great surprise, and the signs of decline have been there for more than a year.

Yeah I don’t see how anything he said is even controversial tbh. Obviously it’s not Ronaldo’s fault but who can disagree that Juve have regressed since his arrival and are much more one-dimensional?

From what I can tell, they would've regressed, with or without him, unless they'd spent his transfer money on strengthening multiple, other positions on the team. And that's definitely easier said than done.

Not sure who are the 5 upvoters of this post, probably they know nothing about Juventus
Ronaldo is not the focal point tactically but i agree his presence is detrimental to the club. As a player he helps us on the field, his arrival is also the root of our problems.
We had a director Beppe Marotta who was the best in the world, he had a plan to rejuvenate the core of the team which did not include Ronaldo. But in summer 2018 the opportunity of marketing Ronaldo occurs, perfect for JJ rebrand. As coincidence some months later Marotta gets resigned, replaced by a puppet Paratici, and since then we are in the weeds. The incompetent new management who could not surround Ronaldo with good players as the huge contract removes financial possibilities. So we sign shite players like Rabiot as free agent and to hell with the wage pyramid.

Re: Cristiano Ronaldo is the GREATEST OF ALL TIME. Now Sit down and STFU
looking at that list, does anyone also feel the game became more scorer/scoring friendly in the 2010s as opposed to 2000s and before of course. Like for instance, if Henry was a bit later in time so that his peak fell in the 2010s surely he makes that list too. Maybe Rooney as well.
And also it's easier to statpad in foreign leagues compared to the GOAT league.

One of the biggest downgrades going from prime KCM and Karim "scottie pippen" Benzema to lads like Rabiot, Ramsey and same random named Culosevski.
Such a shame, he could've had 1 or 2 more glorious seasons had he stayed

He was in the perfect system for him at Madrid. Though it's kind of amusing that he was signed to bring Juve to the next level, but instead they've been getting knocked out by smaller teams.

Re: Cristiano Ronaldo is the GREATEST OF ALL TIME. Now Sit down and STFU
Yes, his stay at Juventus has been disappointing all things considered. I know he's scoring regularly in the league, but he was signed to give them that extra edge they were lacking in the CL, and so far, he has failed.
I wouldn't put the blame solely on him though. Juventus should share a big chunk of the blame for making very bad decisions. I really don't know all of their ins and outs, but it seems to me that moving away from Marotta and Max was a big mistake because their replacement weren't as good.
Ronaldo is certainly losing his magic by the day now given his age, but I kinda feel things might've been slightly different for him with a better coach and a more suitable system.

It's funny considering that Madrid are still playing a system built for Ronaldo lol.

He is 36. Players at his age are either playing in MLS or retired. If juve signed him to win the CL they should have also provided him with the right players.
Imagine going from Pogba-Pirlo-Marchisio to the current crop of Rabiot, Mckennie and Arthur lmao

Re: Cristiano Ronaldo is the GREATEST OF ALL TIME. Now Sit down and STFU
Nah, I don't think it's his fault. It's just all about tempering expectations. He went from all time great side that was perfectly built to him to a weaker side that wasn't.
The Juve board probably thinks he'd be enough to get them over the teams they've lost to, but in reality Ronaldo had a great supporting cast at Madrid who came through when he didn't. He doesn't have that at Juve. He's also gotten older, so I can't really fault him. I just wonder how much longer he's going to stay there.
