i can see that, yes.
what i meant by my comment though is as Xavi's successor to having the key's to the throne of Barca's midfield, not necessarily comparing his qualities' to Xavi's
Yeah, I'm aware that's what you meant. I was just referring to their styles because it's a frequent comparison.
I used to say he was like a mix of Ronaldinho and Xavi lol. Has that samba flair combined with that Spanish technique.

Best midfielder in the world. Only DeBruyne was on his level this season.

Arquitecto wrote:I never saw him as Xavi in any form given he is indeed closer to Pirlo than anything and probably the closest thing to Pirlo since the man himself.
Blessed with immense talent since the beginning and it was staggering how Pep refused to raise and use him.
Fortune favoured Thiago from the start anyway.
Had the option play for
Spain
Italy
Brazil
before he chose his team of course.
Respectfully disagree. From the time he broke, always saw him as Xavi's heir than Pirlo's. Granted he plays differently now and a more long ball game but that was not the case when he broke out. He played very similar to Xavi. The true heir to Xavi and Iniesta. Had the talent level, mentality and flair to take over from them. Alas, he got away. We have made one bulnder after another in the transfer market over the years but letting Thiago go for that fraud Fabregas has to be the biggest of all. Best midfielder since Xavi and Iniesta without a shadow of a doubt.

this may seem like Arsenal bias and exaggeration, but Xhaka since Arteta's arrival is actually a decent shout for one of the best midfielders of the season.

Henderson pre Covid break was PL's best midfielder though.

Xhaka has always been bound for greatness. Him and Shaquiri earlier in their careers were setting the CL alight and taking on the best midfields and winning.
Odd how his career has turned out but he is too talented to fail.

Re: Thiago Alcantara Appreciation Thread
He was fantastic tonight, his technical superiority was even more evident in the middle of a pitch dominated by workhorses rather than elegant midfielders. The man who had the machine ticking for Bayern. Without him Bayern would have been steamrolled in midfield IMHO, because the rest of the team didn't seem to be able to bring the ball forward at all. Also worth mentioning that defensively put in a great performance, getting tackles in and physical with PSG's fantasy players. Something I didn't see him doing in his younger years. Bayern will miss him next season.
However, I don't think he is as McAgger and RG make him out to be. But that's GL. One day you're the king of the world, the next day you're an overrated flop and a cuck.

he's a proper ball playing midfielder, has every single quality you want from the perfect midfielder and you could see the signs since his youth days in the Spain U21 and Barca team. That's why I was so surprised when Barca let him go because i always saw him as Xavi's successor.
However, I wouldn't say he is unique. There have been many great allround midfielders before him.
I agree that there have been plenty of midfielders of that quality, but as Cas put it the combination of spanish technique and samba flair makes him very distinctive when he gracefully dances around with the ball at his feet. Players like Xavi or Iniesta were great in their own way but they didnt have that kind of flair

The best thing about Thiago showing up is him putting to bed that he's a YouTube/Playstation player. Can't believe someone ever threw that at him.

Re: Thiago Alcantara Appreciation Thread
Strange though when he was at Barca, he wasnt given many chances, but there were. However, most of the games he did play he showed promise, but never really dominating or impressive enough to say clearly he deserved to start. Anyhow, we should have kept him even just for rotation, but were stacked then, who would have thought our midfield would run into so many problems in the years past

Looking forward to seeing what he can do in the Prem. We've got way too many CMs now, though. Time to sell.

Some classic overhyping going on over here. Sounds like @Frenzy actually. (Wouldn't put it past him to glorify a Pool transfer tbh)
Literally every club do transfers in installments
And had Pool not ended up paying the price for Thiago , this jabroni would have cooked up some nonsense story stating him being 'not worth it' or 'too injury prone' etc. You just know how it goes with these types.

Verratti certainly isn't (he's actually overrated) but I agree that Thiago will destroy the PL if he stays fit.

It is true in bits and pieces what he is saying still overhyping it of course. But for me he so blatantly ignores the fact that Bayern showed very fair and gentleman's behaviour in granting Thiago's wish. True that pulling power of Liverpool along with Klopp worked but it would not have been possible without Bayern agreeing to it.

staying fit is the most important factor. You never know what might happen with the fittest of the best players while playing under Klopp. Although Klopp over the period of last three years has toned down the pressing demands from his players but still the training alone takes a toll on players. Specially Klopp has employed all the right people in his staff who take care of his players very well.
