Thiago Alcantara
http://www.football-italia.net/aug12r.html
Another one of those players tipped to be future giants linked with Roma.
I think it would be a good signing, although I am starting to get a little disheartened with the amount of young foreigners coming in.
I'd only think this was good if they were completely proven future greats like Bojan- who has already displayed so much.
Is Thiago worth it?
Who are the best young Roma players? Ones who could enter the squad next season?

Re: Thiago Alcantara
Antei, Viviani and Caprari. The rest of the promising ones are out on loan.
If we do get Thiago, it'll probably be only on loan. Barcelona would never get rid of him permanently.

Re: Thiago Alcantara
Totally agree with Mike. Thiago would do well with us, but we'd never be able to sign him permanently, just like it's highly unlikely that we'll sign Bojan permanently.
The one thing I don't like about this link is that it further re-inforces the idea that we're becoming something of a way-point club for up-coming Barca players. A nursery of sorts for their young talent. That's an image that I think we need to move away from.
As good as Thiago is, we need to be concentrating on our own youth.

Re: Thiago Alcantara
I would really like to see some of the youth next season, but if Thiago is as good as his reputation he could be added- need more creativity in MF.
But what sort of Midfielder is Viviani? Perhaps Thiago would steal his spot.

Re: Thiago Alcantara
Viviani's being played at the base of midfield as more a B2B. He was more of an attacking midfielder with the Primavera and U19s though. He was basically playing in De Rossi's spot last night. He's got good energy and can push forward when needed and is not afraid to shoot from distance.

Re: Thiago Alcantara
I suppose if De Rossi and Viviani are so similar something like
De Rossi--Thiago--Viviani
could be tested out- There'd be so much energy in that midfield the opposition wouldnt be able to handle it.
I assume with the comparrisons with De Rossi he's very competant defending so both could fit the B2B role very well. Tracking back to win the ball back then bursting forward.

Hmm, I'm sure that midfield could do well (atm you could just put Pizarro in Thiago's spot). But Luis Enrique wants the midfielder who's better at defending in the middle, so basically he wants De Rossi in the middle. That player has to drop back to help the defence and could often find himself lining up with the rest of the defence, creating a 5 man backline. Thiago I don't think would excel with that role and neither would Pizarro.
As for Viviani, he's pretty much touted as De Rossi's heir. Good at defending, good energy as Neal said, but more than capable of providing an offensive spark. He has a pretty good right foot on him and even scored against Vasas from long range. Along with Caprari, definitely two of our most promising youngsters. Then there's Verre, but he's still quite young.

Re: Thiago Alcantara
Ah I see- so pretty much like Barcas current system?
I suppose you'd have to be quite confident to play without a destroyer- but I feel De Rossi is wasted in that role.

Well I wouldn't say wasted because he's very good at it and it shows when he's not there. But he is such a good all-round player (good heading and a good shot) and it's rare that we see it since he's stuck that far back.
De Rossi - Viviani - Pizarro
or
Viviani/ Perrotta - De Rossi - Pizarro
That's most probably what we'll be seeing this year. The first would allow De Rossi to get further forward, though I think Enrique will prefer the second one given that De Rossi gives more defensive stability.
