Re: Next Barcelona Manager Discussion
Probably Unzue is not the worst possible coach we could get, but it's an unnecessary gamble. As a manager, he has been quite mediocre in his tenures at Numancia and Racing Santander. And he has always been a specialist as a GK coach.
Very underwhelming if we sign Unzue...

Re: Next Barcelona Manager Discussion
I really fail to grasp the school of thought of our club, it's like we are obsessed with mediocrity. Every big club in Europe is splashing cash right and left and here we are collecting Denis Suarezs and Mathieu's of the world. Even in case of managers, not even teams in football games give away jobs this easily to random scrubs lol.

Unzé? Has this board not learned from their Tito and Tata experiences?
Re: Next Barcelona Manager Discussion
From the way the players and everyone is talking, Unzue is as good as done. I did read a random report we made an offer to Alegri but the board shot it down pretty fast.

What's your beef with Tito? The guy was doing just fine prior to getting a cancer. I presume you meant Rouras?

Tito's team was the best Barça in the league and reached the CL and Cup semifinals, with an ill coach and in an injury plagued season. And Madrid won a cup and that was it that season.
Good season indeed.

Re: Next Barcelona Manager Discussion
Normally one could talk about which manager to hire but with Barca we probably never know.
Established coaches rarely work for us and the rest are gambles which sometimes pay off and sometimes don't.
Look at our history for the last few years. Rijkaard wasn't rated particularly high but he succeeded with us. Before that Sir Bobby Robson and Louis van Gaal were big names but neither wrote his name in Barca folklore. Guardiola was a beginner and he built the best ever Barca. Enrique was a reject from Roma who somehow won the treble with us. On the other hand a complete gamble like Tata Martino did not work.
So what can we conclude from all this? Established coaches are no more likely to work for us than beginners and unknowns. Our best bet as always is someone who has some previous connection with Barcelona.
Personally I rate Max Allegri very high and I think he deserves more success and adulation from the game but I have my doubts about his being the right fit for us. A good point has been made earlier in this thread about creativity vs. control. That may be quite significant for us.

After yesterday's result, Valverde becomes favourite again to replace Lucho instead of Unzue whose candidacy depended on results. [marca]
We need a top coach and some top notch signings as well. Many people adore Rakitic but I don't think he should be starting for a club like Barcelona. Not to mention Gomes, Roberto, Mathieu etc.
We haven't made a serious signing since Suarez whereas other teams are buying class players left and right.

Defeat against Juve has led to doubts about Unzue's chances, with Oscar Garcia emerging as a contender to become new Barça manager. [sport]

Was there ever any doubt after Sampaoli was ruled out? Other than flirting with the idea of Unzue

Not bad. Still, a lot depends on the players who come along.
Is Inaki Williams still doing well? Valverde could squeeze him into the suitcase, if possible.

Not really excited by Valverde.
Any thoughts on Tuchel? He seems to be linked away from Dortmund. Would he be a good fit?

Why is people not excited with Valverde? Look at what he's doing ffs. Look at Athletic's team... and they are 5th!

Re: Next Barcelona Manager Discussion
It could have been Unzue, so I'm excited that it will be an actual, genuine coach.
Apparently Neymar said he'd leave if Unzue becomes main coach, so there's that Thanks boi
Also, out of Valverde and Tuchel, the Spaniard is definitely the better option. Honestly I can't think of many better choices than Valverde... Sampaoli, Allegri?

Re: Next Barcelona Manager Discussion
Cant help but feel this will be a major downgrade from our recent managers... starting to accept that our era has ended and Reals era now.... their midfield especially are just miles better than us now, their whole team, the way Zidane has got them to be so hungry and consistent. Not to mention together with the ref favours Flo is able to get every season ffs I mean if they maintain it next season, I dont know how we are going to turn things around if we dont majorly improve our midfield and defense.

"Much lower", yeah at most one position and still in europe... and their best player is 36!
Valverde's career is that of constant triumph.

Madrid are not THAT good. We beat them away and were the better team at home. They've been hugely helped by referees both in the league and the champions league. They just won more than us thanks to the referees and a better squad management and depth: while Zidane has rotated well, Lucho has rotated stupidly and our subs suck except Rafinha.

if they lose to Atletico (very probable outcome) Sociedad only has to draw their game and they're out of europe
still a good position considering they have a shit team, that I agree with

About Real, I really think they proved so many ppl wrong this season, many ppl keep saying they rode their luck, but for me they somehow just get it right so often. Their two FBs are two of the best today, thier CBs are underestimated, GK is underrated, midfield three just dominates, not to mention their backups, and Isco, what a beast hes been. They also had to deal with injuries. Dont forget also, they OUTPLAYED Bayern, raped Atletico, etc. Bar MSN, Real are just better than us now. Come to think of it, we did pretty well, considering if they didnt get refs help we would have won the league

Re: Next Barcelona Manager Discussion
I believe what Real got right more than anything was what they did in the signings department and convincing Ronaldo to rest more often than not.
I mean they have a powerful bench due to the type of signings they brought in over the years. They have Isco, Asensio, James on the bench and guys from the Castilla they either moved up or called back. So when they were in an injury crisis or needed to heavy rotate to be fresh for the Champions League it wasn't a problem. And it looks like the smart signings trend will continue as they will replace Coentrao with Theo.
Compare that to the idiotic signings we have made for our bench over the past like 6 years. Our starting 11 is what's been carrying us, and a grace of good luck Messi doesn't get injured often. But basically none of the signings bar Umtiti has really made a point to break into the starting 11 since god knows when. And we have been stupid to send out young promising players who could of stepped in like Thiago and Grimaldo. *bleep* I still believe Sandro is on par with Paco and Munir could of played the random wing minutes given to Arda (and I've said many times Rafinha is a better version of Arda). Factor in the cost for Paco, Arda and Digne etc and we could of easily just got Veratti or someone of that caliber that would of honestly helped the squad.

Re: Next Barcelona Manager Discussion
Madrid have been that good Free, stop being so bitter. We actually kept up with Barcelona's consistency and just did that little bit more. Barcelona, for all their troubles, did not lose to a top 8 team in La Liga, manage to get 90 points with a GD of +80. That is a league title right there.
As for the club's next manager, Valverde is actually a good one but if there is one guy I thought would have been mentioned more was Eusebio of Real Sociedad.

Re: Next Barcelona Manager Discussion
Eusebio came out himself and said he would not take the job if offered, that he was basically just starting his current project and was happy.
Oscar Garcia is guy I thought the club would consider. He's Catalan, played for the club from the Masia and even managed the Catalan NT. He also has a pretty decent and solid record under his belt as a manager. But he came out recently and said no one has reached out to him about coming to the club.
Basically the only guy rumored is Valverde. Unzue hasn't been mentioned in any media outlet in a while now. Sampaoli was wanted by the fans, but the club itself never seemed interested and he's accepted the Argentina job.
