And I can’t help but feel it’s mainly used to gauruntee Paulinho a starting spot, because in a 4-3-3 he wouldn’t work. There is basically no creativity going to Suarez and Messi, but it helps keep 2 defensive line. So we are winning but it’s ugly as hell. Hopefully once Dembele returns this all changes

It's a shame everyone here disappeared. Would be glad to discuss with alex in particular how we are playing the most defensive, boring, unfluid, flat 4-4-2 sideway passing game in the world. Easily the most uninspiring Barca I've seen in my lifetime and I've watched us play under Gamper (live).

Well with a subpar midfield and only Messi scoring, what did you expect? This is the result of years of miss-management by the Rosel/Barto administration. I think Valverde is getting out the most from a very average team we have so far. I mean just think of it. Only Messi and Ter Stegen were exceptional. Umtiti was very good. The rest were on and off while most being just average or above average at most. This is not how Barca should be.

We've been playing really tough opponents lately though, and I think if hes just managing it to be flexible in these games to strengthen the midfield to compete, I dont see that big of a deal. The results matters in the league and we are good gap ahead. Without example Paulinho in there, with just Iniesta, Busquets and Rakitic they seem to be overrun often before. Pretty sure when Dembele is back and in more games we will see 4-3-3 back.

I agree and I also think that we will become more flexible and offensive-minded when Dembele comes back and we abandon the 4-4-2. It may be getting decent results but there's no joy to take out from watching the games.

However, the fact that Valverde chooses to be so conservative is kinda understandable from his POV. Results are vital to keep the job. I can only hope the we loosen up a bit with time and change our style.

I think we got incredibly lucky they didn't finish their chances, they were better in the first half and we were about equal on the second. The difference is that we were able to seal the deal and they were not.

Paullinho unfortunate not to get a goal, was trying hard for it.

They kinda controlled the game but didn't create many clear chances. There were a lot of crosses into the box and that kinda stuff

It was expected that they would close us down since we have a shit midfield but I knew in the end we would prevail.

It was a good, collective performance. Especially in the second half.

I expect us to improve once Dembele comes back.

I think the score, like allot of games this season, doesn’t really tell the real story. We were not better than them, not even much better once they went down a man. First half we couldn’t get the ball (and they weren’t even using Isco) and second hald was about the same except we ventured forward more and we were able to put some shots away. We were very lucky that first half that they had an aging Ronaldo and done and past it Benzema.

Alas, Valencia has ran out of steam and Madrid are really far back. I think second half the only squad to start climbing towards is will be Atleti; injecting Costa will help Griezeman and the rest of the attack so much.

I could count on one hand the games I've enjoyed watching this season.

Valverde has numbers in his defence but I dislike this version of Barca. If it were up to me I'd have him replaced after the season, doesn't matter what throphies he wins

We're neither a 4-4-2 team nor a defensive unit. Paulinho starting for Barcelona in 2018, are you serious man? Messi won't save us every time, it's not a bad thing to rely on his goals but better football needs to go with it and not this crap we have now
