Re: Best of 2016
Watched Captain America: Civil War again, and shame on me for having to confirm how great I thought it was on first watch. I couldn't believe that a Marvel movie could be as high on my year-end list, but it deserves to be. 5/5 movie, don't think Marvel will ever top it.
In addition, I would say it is my favourite movie of 2016 thus far, can only see La La Land and/or Manchester By the Sea beating it.

Re: Best of 2016
In no particular order:
TV
Narcos
Westworld
Game of Thrones
The Night Manager
American Crime Story
Honorable mentions: The Night Of, Atlanta, Goliath, Mozart in the Jungle, Man in the High Castle
Movies
Deadpool
Captain America: Civil War
Star Wars: Rogue One
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
[Vacant]
Couldn't think of a 5th one as I didn't see a lot of the other movies in theaters this year. I'm sure I'll think of one later.

Games

Can't help it. I like what I like, I guess. I have no interest in movies like La La Land unfortunately. That isn't to say I don't like musicals or dramas, but this particular one just doesn't interest me in the slightest, despite the hype and acclaim. It wouldn't have been the first Best Picture winner that I've passed on.
I've always been unabashedly sci-fi/fantasy/superhero biased so yeah I'm comfortable with that.

Re: Best of 2016
I've now seen Atlanta and while I thought it was a pleasant surprise with smart, with fully fleshed out characters, and a distinct voice I wouldn't call it the best TV show of the year, especially not as a comedy. It was sometimes funny but definitely a drama for me.

It's most definitely a Dramedy. Comedy and drama aren't mutually exclusive. I thought myself it was hysterical and incredibly relatable.

Re: Best of 2016
There were some hilarious scenes but they were spread too far apart, I'd say its more on the drama side. The only reason it got categorized as a comedy is that the Golden Globes have a ridiculous rule that anything under 30 minutes is a comedy and anything above a drama.

That's not the reason at all. Comedy doesn't equal laughs. There's different kinds of comedy and every episode in this show were filled with it. I don't know how it can even be argued.
Genres are also made up anyways. But if you want to get into technical terms it's a dramedy, which is a genre. Drama is such a vague genre anyways that you can argue anything fitting into it.

Re: Best of 2016
Really? I guess I would say it's mostly a dramedy, but to me it was like 70% comedy, 30% drama. Again, I compare it a bit to Louie which I think is really similar in terms of the percentage (I would say Louie is right around the same comedy/drama mix). There are some outright hilarious moments but I agree with BC that those are pretty spread out. That being said, I think there is a lot of more subtle humor and enough quirks within the characters, the acting, and the writing in between the outright hilarious moments. Those aren't the laugh out loud type funny, but they're ubiquitous throughout the show.
Though it's a comedy, it does really well to tackle difficult concepts and convey a message in each episode as well--obviously, it doesn't necessarily need to be a drama to do so. This is, again, similar to Louie which I definitely classify as a comedy.

Yea agree with CB and Freeza. Perhaps, BC's predisposed taste to genre and comedy didn't make him pick up many of the subtle off-beat quirks and comedy. I mean almost every time Paper Boi and Darius were on screen something funny was going on.

The Black Bieber episode, Paper Boininterview episode and that White guy who loved black culture episodes, Darius at shooting range. Those are some of the funniest scenes and episodes I've ever seen.

The black entertainment channel is an entire episode devoted to being incredibly funny, more so than the other episodes I feel. Hilarious episode, and incredible

Nice to see the Get Down get some love. I really enjoyed part 1 of that show. Still boggles my mind that it cost more to make than both Westworld and GOT.

I think it's mainly because they had to it all over after it turned out shit. So it's probably going to cost 40% less for season 2

To assume I didn't pick up on it is a tad bit condescending, but I'll admit many of the scenes that you guys are talking about (like the fake BET episode or the dinner party) were not my cup of tea. I've never really liked cringe-humor, reason I never got into The Office.
Anything with Darius was flat out hilarious though.

I didn't mean it like that main man. I even used the word perhaps.
The point I was trying to make is that we have different tastes. And maybe yours just doesn't fall in line with Atlanta's humour.

That definitely wasn't my intention, just that I thought the show was primarily structured around that kind of humor. Whether you like that humor or not is going to play into how you view the show. I do enjoy that kind of humor, which is why I probably found the show on the whole more comedic than you did.
- Spoiler:
Personally found both of these absolutely hilarious

Oddly enough, I didn't like that episode that much. It had its moments, but overall it felt like a detour from the whole season.
