Speaking about defenders: City paid £50m for Stones, Arsenal £35m for Mustafi, Chelsea £32m for Luiz, and Man U £30m for Bailly where as we got Matip for free, such a snip and he has been class till now.

Matip is the best defender in the league. Just lmao at Koscielny Did you see his hilarious performance yesterday. The second his athleticism and agility declines he's done for. Prime Mertesacker held his hand first for a long time and now Mustafi has to do it. You have to limit the amount of actual thinking Koscienly has to do for him to look good.

Kos confuses me at times. But I think if remember some his performances from last 1-2 seasons, he is a great defender but not a WC as I heard here sometiemes.

don't get carried away mate this is why us Liverpool fans get shot down in flames. yes he looks a real good signing and he has been playing well but ive seen him look a bit shaky at times and he could be doing much better on set plays.Don't call me James wrote:Matip is the best defender in the league. Re: English Premier League '16-'17 Discussion - Part 5
lol what carried away?
It's not like I'm just saying now he's all of a sudden the best in the league.
The second he signed I said he was the best in the league.
Did extensive scouting on him at Schalke when we agreed to sign him in January. I was surprised at how good he was at first for Schalke but not now. He was top 3 CB in Bundesliga with Hummels and Boateng, no doubt about it. There's a reason Schalke are so shit now. He was one of the main reasons why they were competing for CL last season and now in the relegation fight. lmao at replacing him with Naldo

no doubt I envy Spurs defense and their whole defensive system. I did not check the stats but they must have conceded the least number of goals in the league right now.

I dont watch all the Bundesliga games but I do follow the league regularly through highlights and other stuff. And I remember Matip doing silly mistakes in his Schalke times but most of the times it used to come out of his 'attacking side'. He had kind of responsibility to start attacks if he had a chance for Schalke. But Klopp seems to have asked him to be little cautious at the start of Liverpool career.

There's nothing wrong with what McAgger said lol, out of those CB's bought, Matip is the best one. I'd put him best of the league if i could, but i need to see more Pool matches

The problem with Koscielny is that we play in such an attacking manner which causes defenders to be left exposed all the time. So far this season he is had to mop up after Mustaphi and Monreal, before that it was Mert and his mobility issues. This why you always see him making those last ditch challenges, any centre halves would struggle to play for Arsenal due to the way we set up.

Have to agree with McAgger tbh. Nothing wrong with what he said. The way Matip has been defending this season is amazing to watch. Best in the league easily.
Goes hand to hand with best forward in the league Firmino and best midfielder in the league Coutinho.

Re: English Premier League '16-'17 Discussion - Part 5
he is a great signing on a free no doubt and I'm very happy to have him but he has only played 8-9 games and Liverpool have only kept 1 clean sheet so lets see how he goes first. but as helmer pointed out the money spent on centre backs and he cost nothing is great management by klopp.ES wrote:There's nothing wrong with what McAgger said lol, out of those CB's bought, Matip is the best one. I think Alder looks better because of this Spurs system. For me Vertonghen is better than him and is a very complete defender. Nonetheless I so badly wanted him at Liverpool when they were rumours that we were after him.

Reminds me of the time Liverpool had the best players in each position, according to their fans. Remember that? Reina. Riera. Johnson. Kuyt. Fookin 'ell, Aquilani? Possibly one of the best midfielders this side of the the universeDon't call me James wrote:The second he signed I said he was the best in the league
