Alien (1979)
8.3/10
Great sci-fi thriller. I can't believe it's aged so well. If you told me it was made 5 years ago I'd believe you. Obviously some technology looks old in the ship but the quality of the picture looks magnificent. Had the same suspense feel that I loved in The Thing (1982). Definitely worth the watch.

Arrival 8.7/10
Liked it more than Interstellar. Probably my favorite movie this year. Denis does it again, absolutely gripping. Those who said it's slow, I couldn't disagree more.
Very beautiful as well. Overall just fantastic. I bought into and agree with the hype.

Yea don't get it either how Arrival was slow. It was one of those times I didn't realise time had flown by.
Although I don't think it was better than Interstellar in anyway tbh.

Yeah I rate Interstellar slightly higher. And both fall behind Inception (goat film my opinion).
Inception - 9.9
Interstellar - 9.3
Arrival - 8.8

Since we've got so many Arrival lovers on here

Such a great score and individual piece from it which composer Johann Johannsson talks about himself.

Music was so good man. Specially during THAT end montage when there were minimum dialogues and the scenes were playing with music in the background

Best score in a long time. Absolutely floored me. I was literally thinking during the movie how it's probably the best score i've ever heard.

The World According to Garp (1982)
My all-time favorite Robin Williams movie, but unfortunately is among his least known considering how young he is in it. Also a fantastic performance from Glenn Close and John Lithgow in supporting roles.
Whimsical, hilarious and realistic yet very tragic in many ways. I've watched this movie many times over the years (my mom bought it on VHS when I was a kid and I just stumbled on it one day) and it still holds up. The symmetry on display in this movie has always fascinated me.

Re: The Movie House - Part 8
was bored and had Avatar on my TV in the background earlier..that movie came out in 2009 ffs, I thought it was 2013
can't believe they're saying 2018 for the sequel..9 years
don't really care for it, remember getting into a workplace debate about the best movies and someone was arguing Avatar is
Sam Worthington lucky to be involved in that..such a flash in the pan actor, no idea why cameron had a hard-on for him, he is garbage

I actually think Worthington is a great actor. He's just not a leading man yet.
Can't wait for Avatar tbh. I never doubt James Cameron. People do it every time, and he never fails.

Re: The Movie House - Part 8
Movie was too cliche story wise but that didn't stop it from being one of the greatest movie experiences I ever had. Absolute GOAT movie experience. Pushed the boundaries and opened imaginations to an incredible world.
Should rewatch it sometime soon tbh.
Don't know if I've ever experience such hype for a movie post-release either. Avatar was ubiquitous shortly after it came out, was all people could talk about.

Re: The Movie House - Part 8
Downloaded and watched Incendies and Children of Men recently.
Incendies was good, saw the twist coming halfway through but it was very well done. Great acting and storytelling. Villeneuve's versatility is amazing. New Ridley Scott like I said
Children of Men was outstanding. Think its one of my favorite movie of the 2000s. Its scary how I could easily see the world turning into that if infertility happened. I am completely sure that dystopian Britain would look almost exactly like that. That Cuaron's best ever work in my opinion.

Great movies both Emma. Agree on Incendies twist. Saw it coming miles away.
Loved Clive Owen from mid-00s era. Wish he would get more leading roles in good movies.

All Avatar's sequel needs is to be memorable. That's it. A memorable plot and characters to match the ridiculously good visuals.

Can't wait to see what Cameron's gonna do with the visuals. He's revolutionized visual cinema three times now, and my guess is he's going for a fourth.

Re: The Movie House - Part 8
Fantastic Beasts was good. Way too much exposition for my liking but thats expected from the first movie. The casting was great, I thought everyone played their roles perfectly. I loved Eddie Redmayne, Dan Fogler and Colin Farell especially. I rate the movie as high as the later Potter films.
For those who seen the movie and read the books
For those who seen the movie and read the books
- Spoiler:
- Ariana Dumbledore was totally an Obscurial right?
I really hope Grindlewald didn't kill Graves and just locked him up somewhere like Crouch Jr did with Mad Eye Moody. I really don't want this to be Colin Farell's first and last Potter movie, he was phenomenal. Would like it either way if he comes back as a good guy or a Grindlewald fanatic.
Also Depp looked really overweight. Hope he does not Willy Wonka his Grindlewald.
