David Silva has been such a fine player but there's been something missing in his career. I would say it's the big moment(s). He spent the WC 2010 victory on bench. Was a steady performer in three Euros but rarely spectacular. His best has probably come in some league games for ManCity, even a few of the big games, but what he now needs to do is really show himself in UCL and then maybe in WC 2018 as well.
He's on course to be 3rd all time Goal Scorer for Spain, surpassing Fernando Torres at 38 goal
He's always performed well for Spain while playing on the wing.

Winter is Coming wrote:On redcafe this was an interesting analogy describing Pep and MouHonestly, Pep is a greater manager than José.
To me José tries to float a boat as fast as he can by getting some fine wood. When constructing the boat he just want it to be solid enough to get through the ocean. Problems will be solved along the way as he's got enough fine wood to repair eventual damage that may occur. No need to go through every single detail. The crew knows enough to finish the route.
Pep on the other hand will take his time going through every detail. He won't sail before he knows the boat is safe enough. Once he's out there at sea you'll know it's in a solid boat with a well equipped crew. He's able to stay out at sea for a long time and go from harbor to harbor.
That's my Iniesta view on it.
What a pile of horse shit
That's my view on it

Agreed, ridiculous analogy. They both have been at their clubs for the same length, how can you say Mourinho rushed and Pep "took his time"?

I think Man City have a lot of potential to win this season. And i think Pep is better than Mourinho.

The analogy is obviously meant to be applied across their careers, not merely their time in Manchester.
That said, I too think it's horses**t. It's merely the reflection of their public personas, rather than an actual examination of fact. Mourinho has taken on the flashy, high-profile jobs, known for spending loads of money on superstars (galaticos) and playing a style that is perceived as relying upon individual brilliance. Pep is perceived as the builder, piecing together squads of lesser-known player and playing a unified style of football, relying more on chemistry and interplay.
Make no mistake, they've both taken the high-profile jobs, they've both wielded the full extent of their club's draw and financial muscle in recruitment, they've both spent huge amounts on superstar players, they've both assembled squads for immediate success, and they've both left behind squads with issues that need to be addressed. The largest differences: Mourinho tends to be pricklier with the media and he tends to flame out in a more spectacular fashion at each club he leaves behind (at least in the public's perception).

Re: THE Manchester Derby 16/17
I'm going to sound like a fanboy here but did Guardiola really leave teams with issues to address?
At Barca their issues were false 9 was no longer effective due to teams adapting to it and needing more offensive individualism to help Messi due to said change in the wider world of football tactics.
Not really things that can be pinned on an outgoing manager and at Bayern in terms of playing personnel you really can't be left in a better state.
To me he definitely spends money on superstars but unlike Mourinho he doesn't leave the club behind in a shit state, he obviously wants to win now but he doesn't do it at the risk of long term success for the club that hires him.
If anyone disagrees though feel free to tell me why.

I think it's just that Mou trusts experience above all, and obviously after spending 3 years somewhere these experienced players are past it or close to that, so a rejuvenation is required.

Re: THE Manchester Derby 16/17
Rashford with 16.2 games worth of minutes vs 2.3 for Jesus
Hopefully G. Jesus makes the bench tonight. And Midfield of Kdb, Delph, and Fernandinho. No Toure, all he does is slow us down in attack. But I could see Pep going with him since United are going to seat back and try to hit us on the counter.
Need mobility in the midfield and Toure going to slow us down there. Could see Sterling on the bench for Jesus if he is ready. With a front 3 of Jesus on the left and Sane on the right.

Tbf, it's not like he has many options. Pogba is out. There's no Mata either. I'm not sure they have any other midfielders beyond those 5.
