Average/bad coach and worse board. It's that simple really.

Re: UEFA Champions League Revamp
the coefficient system will change, clubs will be judged individually on their own records & not grouped by country. #CL
Brilliant.
Hope this 'supporting rival teams for coefficient's sake ' can be dropped for good now. It doesn't make sense anymore. And it never will.
Oh who am I kidding. That would still continue regardless.

People never cared about the club coefficient but the country coefficient that determines your leagues number of teams in the CL..

Re: UEFA Champions League Revamp
Since the historical impact on qualifying turned out to be bullshit then its a pretty ok reform. Nothing too scandalous.
I don't know if I approve. I like to watch different teams from different leagues, but no one can say the level of competition won't be higher with Villareal and Roma than it is with Be'er Sheva and Ludogorets. From a football quality point of view it makes sense, from a more romanticized view it doesn't.

Re: UEFA Champions League Revamp
Confirmed now from UEFA for the 2018-19 competition and onward. Since Portugal has fallen out of the top six (for the first time in years) and all their teams are already out, they got boned.
Top 4 gets 4 spots in the group stage.
5th and 6th (France and Russia) get 2 spots plus 1 spot for the qualifiers.
7-10: 1 spot plus 1 spot for the qualifiers.
The rest go for the qualifiers.

Inter and Milan getting better at the right time.
Just gotto get themselves in the 4th spot consistently for that CL cash in flow and slowly build from there.

Re: UEFA Champions League Revamp
It's official, Spain, Italy, Germany and England will have 4 automatic berths in the CL. Portugal loses out, France and Russia will have 2+1 teams and Portugal only 1+1.
"The associations’ positions in the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League access list are determined on the basis of the associations’ coefficients established at the finish of the 2016/17 campaign, on the basis of the associations’ coefficients from seasons 2012/13 to 2016/17.
Under the revised access lists for the revamped European club competitions from 2018, the top four nations in the association rankings will each receive four guaranteed places in the UEFA Champions League group stage while those countries ranked fifth and six gain two group berths plus a qualifying spot for the club finishing third.
Spain, Germany, England and Italy are confirmed as the top four associations regardless of what happens in the quarter-finals and beyond of the two club competitions. And despite ending last season in fifth place, Portugal have fallen outside the top six and with all their clubs now out of Europe will not be able to overtake France or Russia (in the top six for the first time since 2010).
The nations from seventh to tenth will all receive one automatic group berth and one qualifying spot, and Portugal, Ukraine, Belgium and Turkey currently hold those posititions. The Czech Republic and Switzerland, in 11th and 12th, would see their champions enter the play-offs and also join the top ten in being assured of at least one UEFA Europa League group slot.
In the club rankings, the calculations for which will change in 2018 but for determining next season’s seedings remain the same, Real Madrid retain a comfortable lead at the top over Bayern München of more than ten points, with Barcelona, Atlético Madrid and Juventus also in the top five. Notable rises include Monaco up to 32nd (from 58th at the end of last season) and Leicester City effectively a new entry in 56th.

Re: UEFA Champions League Revamp
In an ideal world the CHAMPIONS league would contain 1 team from each country.
Oh, it would also be a straight knockout open draw competition.
But of course, there is no money in this idea.

I find this quite unfair looking at Portugal, regardless of this year's disappointments. I'd rather take one spot off Russia and hand them to Portugal.

Re: UEFA Champions League Revamp
This might actually bring Serie A back from its death knells.
However, as long as Juve keeps their unprecedented dominance, the league won't be able to recover.

Re: UEFA Champions League Revamp
Don't know about Milan, but Suning is planning stack Inter with world class players whatever the cost and they don't care about FFP apparently. Serie A is set to overtake EPL next year in the old coefficient depending how Juventus does compared to Leicester. I think either Serie A has recovered or EPL has crashed.

Re: UEFA Champions League Revamp
EPL has the money to buy all Serie A teams, two times over.
Thinking its going to crash is just fantasy. That is not to say that they are going to perform on Europe, but they will still be a talent magnet that other teams cannot compete against, unless they depend on developing their own talent and scouting.

@Breva
- Napoli and Roma are Liverpool/Spurs level at best, reaching the CL round of 16 is already an achievement in itself.
- Milan teams don't qualify for the competition.
- Lazio and Fio don't do much in Europa.
Serie A has not recovered at all in terms of credibility and performance (i mean on the continental scene)... thanks to the heavens Juventus is there to keep the ship afloat

Russia boosted their rankings thanks to EL performances. Just consistently getting out of the group stage.
Krasnodar, Rostov, Zenit, Lokomotiv Moscow, Dynamo Moscow, etc all in the past few years.
Portugal lost out bigly when Legia Warsaw finished ahead of Sporting in their CL group. 1-2 more wins from Sporting in EL and Portugal would have kept their spot.

Spurs got knocked out of the Europa league by a team called Genk or Gent, can't remember. Napoli lost but did a credible job against one of the CL favorites. Real Madrid. Manchester City got knocked out by Monaco, not a favorite for the title.
If Serie A is doing badly in Europe, how is the EPL doing?
