Re: Mafia 3
i'm hesitating about renting a PS4 at the store just to play Mafia III... The trailers were interesting and the atmosphere seems great.
So...... the gameplay/gunplay is good, really ? I'm not worried about the mechanics; more with the game controls.
Do you still interact with square, jump with L1 and cover with *bleeping* X ?

Re: Mafia 3
Jump is triangle but the others are true, controls take of getting used to because they are not the same as GTA.
I made a few mistakes early on because of that. Best way to describe the gunplay is it's weighty and has a lot of punch to it.
Actually feels like you are shooting bullets at someone lol, the way the AI responds to being hit is great too. They'll hobble and hold their knee or arm or clutch their stomach.
Nothing more satisfying than blowing someone in the stomach with a shotty and watching them slowly drop to the floor and bleed out as they are clutching their stomach.
The mechanics and feedback you get from the shot is utterly fantastic and personally makes the combat very addicting.

Yeah i agree with you. Realistic bullet/car damage is very important for me to enjoy a GTA-like. Shooting people in the knees is something i enjoy pretty much.
Hope they add some weight to the vehicles too, in Mafia II the trucks were just slower but never felt heavier/harder to control.

Re: Mafia 3
If you get the game you'll want to switch to Simulation driving then, it's Arcade by default and it's not very good.
I hated it because each car got the speed up to max insanely quickly, Simulation on the other hand takes a lot longer to get the speed up to 60 and beyond as well as the other obvious handling differences.
Everyone playing the game should be using it tbh, i also have no auto aim on but that's a lot more of a preference.

Forgot to mention that i called them earlier to take out this probably 10+ group of guys in an alley and they rushed in ahead of me and started shooting everything in sight
Then the informant i was supposed to get answers from got in the car and one of " the boyz" shot his tires out

Re: Mafia 3
The one negative with the combat i can think of so far is that the AI doesn't really react that well to stealth.
In the sense that it's a bit easy to take multiple enemies out without being seen, especially with a silenced weapon.
Seeing as usually i run in like a lunatic with shot gun in and decapitate everyones knee caps it doesn't really bother me but i can seeing it annoy people that do.
The general in guns blazing approach is really fun though and if you *bleep* up the AI destroy you very easily even on normal which has happened to me a lot.
Almost always my fault for thinking im a one man army but still.

Re: Mafia 3
Most games are having trouble with stealth actually. Even Splinter Cell is unrealistic on this matter (like nobody in Russia wonders why three green dots are floating in the dark)
Did they add executions styles ? I saw some gruesome killings in the videos but i mean, is there an option to manually do it yourself ?
Like EA did for the Godfather. Best thing ever for a GTA-like.

Re: Mafia 3
Yeah basically you either hold circle or just spamming circle until it automatically does it.
There's different ones depending on what you are using and how you attack them, like there's standard knife ones and there's others where he knocks them down and smacks them over the back of the head with what ever weapon you are using and others.
Just make sure you don't do it while someone else is shooting at you Done that a few times.

Re: Mafia 3
@Tom
You can upgrade "the boyz"
I just upgraded to the heavy enforcers and you have a group of italian muscle dudes running in with each of them all having shotguns and machine guns
Just had a mission where there's an underground nightclub and they are running in there blowing up everything in sight

Reviews are out, wow lots of negative responses from critics. most complaints are directed at bugs rather than gameplay and story. feels like they rushed the release and it's not polished enough.
Metacritic for the PS4 version is 68.

Re: Mafia 3
I haven't had any issues performance wise personally.
I can understand people wanting to wait until it's ironed out as clearly a lot of people are.
Everything I have said in this thread so far I 100% believe so far, the gunplay is very rewarding and fun, the story is excellent and the soundtrack is amazing.
The mission structure can be a bit repetitive but the gunplay and wanting to see where the story goes next cancels it out for me and the AI during stealth is a bit dumb but that's it.
Can't comment on bugs and other performance related stuff as I haven't really experienced any. Just like Mafia 2 it's probably a flawed game but it's incredibly fun with a fantastically written and well acted story imo.

Re: Mafia 3
Because the PS4 version isn't buggy and glitched like the PC version lol.
Couldn't care less about things that I don't experience lol, why would I get angry and rage about things that I don't experience.
The gunplay is fun and the story is incredibly good which most reviews have actually stated and agree upon so why would I shit on something that I personally haven't experienced.
If it was broken in my experience then fine but it hasn't been, none of those things in that video have happened to me.
Not one, so I really couldn't care less.

A great story doesn't make up for shoddy gameplay in video games, imo. It's the latter that you actually play. I watched those couple clips by you, Mole, where you just sneaked up behind some dudes and shot them and I was like... what's so great about that? It didn't look like a proper stealth game to me, it didn't look like a proper action game... it looked boring.

Re: Mafia 3
Story seemed really good from the couple hrs I played, but I quickly realised I am mad burnt out from gaming. Couldn't be bothered to sink 15-20 hrs into a single player game. Gonna pick it up during a drought some time. Need to conserve my energy for Final Fantasy 15

While I actually agree with you, I personally would reserve judgement as to how good its gameplay was until I actually played the game.
