So anything I definitely need to take care of before the final stretch?

That depends how your gear is and how many side quests you've left undone.
Although there's nothing you can't do after the game iirc and a lot of stuff is designed for post game anyway.

Nothing really affects the ending as it is one ending despite what you do beforehand so no it doesn't matter.

Re: God of War
Finally finished it. Found the final fight a little underwhelming? Maybe I did too many side-quests.
Overall super impressive game. Had a ton of fun playing it. The most amazing thing is that they managed to turn Kratos from a completely one dimensional character into someone with actual depth, and they managed to pull it off.
- Spoiler:
- And you guys were right, the Mount switcharoo definitely made sense in the end.
Don't believe for a second that all Giants are dead, and it seems that they were alive just 5 years ago?
Revelation that Loki = Atreus definitely makes this very intriguing for future installments.
Because of the mural I expected Kratos to die but I guess we are saving this for the next game, and then we'll follow Atreus around? Not that death is ever permanent in GoW.
One thing that was not clear to me. After killing off all the black elves in the elf relm we are told that we "made a grave mistake", but nothing ever comes from that. I had assumed at that point that we had screwed something up and we would find out later about the unintended consequences, but then nothing happened?

Re: God of War
It's not that hard, but i enjoyed everything else about it tbh.
From the scale, the fight itself and the acting from everyone involved.
Although if you are looking for a challenge BC, try the Valkyries

Yeah those are challenging AF. I got 2 of them. Got pretty close with 2 others before deciding to move on with the story and do this later

Re: God of War
All games in the God Of War series always had an epic opening boss fight which keep getting better every game.
1. Hydra
2. Colossus Of Rhodes
3. Poseidon
BAH GAWD did Stranger live up to it. That was like a Dragonball Super + WWE fight Stranger legit did Superman Punch and German suplex but main man Kratos finished him off with a Coquina Clutch.

Re: God of War
Anyone else love how unintentionally hilarious Kratos is?
Are you gonna carry that crystal everywhere?
I just might.
You are hunting deer.
Where?
...in the direction of deer.
Quiet head. You will only speak when I ask you to.
Why is Brok blue and you are not?

Just finished the game. Wow, did it live up to the hype. Probably my favorite of this generation, definitely top 3.

Should've gone to bed several hours ago. Told myself I'd save and quit after killing the Traveler. I've now killed 3 travelers

Re: God of War
Nope. Is that part of the main story? The next destination is Jotunheim, but I’ve been trying to explore as much as possible before advancing the main quest. I’m basically doing laps around the Lake of Nine, looking out for locations I haven’t explored and things I haven’t finished yet.M99 wrote:Thimmy wrote:Should've gone to bed several hours ago. Re: God of War
Valkyries are optional boss fights aimed at post game players.
The final one is the hardest fight in the game by a significant distance.

Re: God of War
Just defeated my first Valkyrie. The fight itself wasn't particularly tough. The strategy was just to evade her first attack and then parry the next one. Meat tank, though. Or maybe my gear just sucks since I haven't advanced the story that much.

Re: God of War
Most of the Valkyries are not that hard if you gear is decent tbh, they are still probably more of a challenge than most bosses but yeah.
It's the final one which everyone complains about

Fought another Valkyrie. This one was named Kara. Took 3 attempts to kill her because of her damn, constantly attacking from all angles, minions.

Found that one of the easiest, the toughest challenge outside of the final one was the one on top of Muspelheim mountain for me.

Re: God of War
I think my gear is pretty weak. Can barely take any attacks, and it was hard to dodge projectiles when they kept surrounding me. I should probably advance the story again

Just beat the one on top of Muspelheim. She was pretty tough. I reckon she'd be much easier with some fire resistance gear, though.

Re: God of War
- Spoiler:
- I'm a bit disappointed that Atreus turns out to be Loki. His personality doesn't match with Norse mythology's Loki, at all. That said, he's still young in the game, and it's possible for him to change in a potential and likely sequel to this game. It would even make sense for him to turn crazy at some point, which would be an interesting similarity to Krato's past. Of course, the lore of the game doesn't have to match Norse mythology to the point of being identical, and in many ways it clearly doesn't.
The lore has been tailored for this particular game, and that's all good and dandy. I do wish they'd stayed true to the personalities of the original characters, though. Like with book to film, or book to game adoptions, It takes away from the immersion when drastic changes are made from the source material, and I would personally appreciate it if they stay true to the personalities of the original characters. At least, to some extent. From what I remember reading about Loki, he's probably the biggest asshole among the Norse gods. Known for being insane and "trolling" people by shapeshifting and f*cking up their lives. I even remember reading that he shapeshifted into an attractive woman and slept with a guy, as a means of getting him into trouble. He's definitely an interesting character, but the extent of his deviousness probably won't fit into a video game. Not even God of War.

Re: God of War
Would be shit if they copied the lore 1:1 tbh.
You can be inspired by it, but you should make it unique where possible.
