For any of those who are hoping for success - Schalke bought a team the finishes just above relegation each season.
Intro to MSI which was just concluded for a dose of "professionalism"
Highlights:
FC Schalke 04 takes over eSports team “Elements”
FC Gelsenkirchen-Schalke 04 e.V. have entered Europe’s eSports elite with the takeover of League of Legends team “Elements”. League of Legends is an internationally renowned computer game with over 67 million active players each month and the regular broadcasting of its professional league system reaches an audience of millions every week.
“We have noticed that the level of professionalism in eSports has continued to grow over the past years. Particular noteworthy is the development of structures within League of Legends and the flagship League of Legends Championship,” told Moritz Beckers-Schwarz, chairman of the board at FC Schalke 04 Arena Management GmbH.
With the acquisition of the league slots in the hard-fought LCS, Schalke has taken the first steps towards a successful future in eSports.
The club will hold a press conference to for all the latest developments on 19th May.

We could theoretically have a group at worlds with Besiktas and Schalke and with NRG eSports (Sacramento Kings)

Not of any note, never heard of them (or remember 
) being involved. Redbull itself sponsors a few teams.
NRG Esports is owned by the same owner as the Sacramento Kings. Echo Fox is also a US team is owned by an NBA pundit? Lastly the chinese team Invictus gaming share ownership with an Atletico co-owner but that's were previous sports relationships and gaming ended last year. Now we've got a huge German Club stepping in and buying a struggling team in the european top flight. That's a massive step.
Then there's just Besiktas which were last years Turkish Champions.
With Schalke 04, ROCCAT and Unicorns of Love we've got 3 german teams in the EU LCS
There is a lot of money involved too; last years best paid players in china across League of Legends and DOTA 2 were earning millions; among them Korean imports. Just look at the production value of the intro; the entire stage is a friggen screen

LoL is the one with ratings. Only things with better ratings than the World Championships (and maybe now MSI as well) are NFL games in the US. When you've got companies like HBO, American Express, Coca-Cola, Korean Air sponsoring western broadcasts you've hit relevancy as these aren't pure tech related companies anymore. These are companies that see us a varied range of Adults large enough to worth reaching through advertising.
Counterstrike's ratings have been rising steady but still not really relevant.

The Worlds finals in the past few years were in Sangnam World Cup Stadium in Seoul; Staples Centre LA, O2 World Berlin.
I think an IEM event was held in Frankfurts stadium or so. I know the Brazilian finals were held in the Corinthians stadium.

An ESL event was held in the CommerzBank Arena http://wiki.teamliquid.net/dota2/ESL_One/Frankfurt/2015 (It's a DOTA 2 only event - a game with prize pools worthy of relevancy (tens millions) but not relevant figures..

Sounds fascinating. I have to admit I have not really read/watched much about eSports, I just thought I read something about one or the other German football club getting interested in getting into it. Plus I heard that there was one eSports team that was founded in my hometown that got some fame, even though I can't remember what it was XD

Oh SK Gaming is an old and venerable esports as they come, they got relegated last year by G2 (coincidentally owned by a former SK Gaming star) in their play-off though and they're not as fearsome a force as they used to be in other games either.
Shame though; in every game against Fnatic there was an el clasico spirit since those are the two oldest western orgs that have been competing since the dawn of 3d gaming.
IF SK get back into the LCS those wil be some spicy matches though.

SK gaming was a historic team, sadly its dithering in CS (2nd division), used to challenge and win tournaments in LoL's early years, had a legendary team too.

Did you know that among the founders of SK Gaming in 1997 were three players of Rot-Weiß Oberhausen (Tim Reichert, Benjamin Reichert and Musa Celik)?

Its fall was only really recently as teams became managed better - Fnatic's management of its LoL team has been stellar. SK's much less so; focusing on the star power of a charismatic player than on results after finalll getting rid of that player they experienced short success recently going as far as the World Championships but a racism suspension of a player has since sent them spiralling downward for some reason. Now they got relegated by the team owned by that ex player
NA too has a forever 4th team - Team Curse Now Team Liquid
There's a reason this "sport" is so popular, it can get extremely entertaining and there's some great storylines as well as cruel ones.

Maybe the SK guys should have concentrated either on playing football or on doing eSports - maybe then they would have gotten better in the department they would have specialized in

I lost it when I saw the schedule as well and Schalke's first match being UOL
Anyways Valencia is looking to announce a esports division tomorrow (FIFA, Hearthstone, Rocket League) with a League of Legends team later in the year (presumably in the LoL off season)
