The "lol we actually finished 2nd" thread
CBA with a big season review, so thought I'd just make a thread where we can talk about some of the good and fun things this season (because we've beaten the negative things to death by this point). Like finishing 2nd, and overtaking Spurs on the final day, and Rosicky and Arteta.
Also the usual gaff for the end of the season:
Player of the Season
Young Player of the Season
Goal of the Season
Best Match
Best/Funniest Moment
The Ozil Pass of the Season
Top Banter Moment

Wait. Doesn't finishing 2nd now means we are in pot 1?

Funniest moment and top banter both go to today, I guess.
Possibly the single positive thing to happen since Cazorla's injury ruined our season.
Oh and thatown Arteta goal.

Leicester are in pot 1 now because they are champions, that's how it works now.

Re: The "lol we actually finished 2nd" thread
We're still in Pot 2. In terms of CL there's no difference between 2nd and 3rd except some extra cash.
Player of the Season - Mesut Ozil
Young Player of the Season - Hector Bellerin
Goal of the Season - Mathieu Flamini's volley vs Spurs
Best Match - The 2-0 win over Bayern
Best/Funniest Moment - Flamini scoring twice at White Hart Lane
The Ozil Pass of the Season - The volleyed through pass against Norwich
Top Banter Moment - Beating Spurs to second on the final day

Arsenal did miss best chance to win leagu if u ask me. Next year with Pep and Conte and probably Mou with huge purse of cash behind them will be hardest one for Arsene that is if he remains as Arsenal boss.

Going to do a detailed summary soon.
But let's just say it's a season to forget. Yet again.

Re: The "lol we actually finished 2nd" thread
Problem is that Arsenal and Wenger will feel justified in how they're handing things... which means another top 4 finish next season with no trophies.
There's no ambition to realistically win the EPL or CL or anything like that imo.

Yep sport, said the same thing in chat, most fans are content with just finishing above Spurs. Lack of ambition is appalling

Re: The "lol we actually finished 2nd" thread
Nobody is content with just finishing above Spurs. We enjoyed today because we're, you know, normal football fans who like it when our rivals *bleep* up. But I don't see anyone saying this has been a good season.
We're not changing managers this summer. Wenger's got a year to go on his deal and the club haven't offered him a new one. Signs are that any new contract talks won't happen until late next season like in 13/14.
So we'll see what happens. £35mil on Xhaka - if it happens - doesn't sound like a lack of ambition to me.

Second place is the first loser.
Horrible season, but joyful last game of the season. Looking up the table and seeing Leicester 10 point clear will make this one of the worst seasons in Wenger's era.
Even though Arteta and Rosicky have been gone for few seasons now, was really emotional day today.
Best wishes to Arteta, Rosicky and Flamini.

The highlight was lap of honor for the two veterans, will miss them and hope someday they will come back to the club.

Re: The "lol we actually finished 2nd" thread
I had a feeling this might happen tbh. Great end to an underwhelming season.
Spuds really are serial bottlers.
I think an apt reminder today is also that there could be much worse things than being a gooner (yes even when Wengers in charge) - who would support toon - so frustrating for them.

Re: The "lol we actually finished 2nd" thread
My favorite comment about the Spurs choking was, "Imagine coming in third in a two horse race."
This season was disappointing but it was largely disappointing because we missed an opportunity due to being "more of the same." Every single big club in England underperformed this year. Arsenal just underperformed the least, which is to say, Arsenal did just about what Arsenal always does, and as a result, slotted into 2nd in an abnormal field. Ours was more a missed opportunity than a matter of outright meltdown (e.g. Chelsea).
And people can make predictions about how difficult it will be next year because Pep, Conte, etc. And that's probably true. But you know, let's not forget that plenty of pundits made similar predictions for this season. How'd those bets turn out?

Thanks guys, these comments really put things in perspective - at least for me, with where I stand on Arsenal and football in general at the moment.
