Re: Ousmane Dembélé
There's nothing more ironic than Madrid fans having a laugh at expensive transfer fees when they were the ones breaking them for the better part of a good decade.
End of the day, a 20 year old Dumbele had 10G & 20A in his first 'full' season of professional football with Dortmund. Barca were in need of a Neymar replacement and Dortmund didn't want to sell. In today's market taking all of that into account for a player with big potential he was always going to cost a lot.

Re: Ousmane Dembélé
We broke the transfer for Cristiano Ronaldo, the best player in england, CL Winner and Ballon d'or
Then we did it again for Bale, a unique athlete that was dominating the EPL from a smaller club than the traditional top 4, and was 2x player of the year
imagine comparing that to signing Dembele for 150 mil because he had some nice stats having achieved nothing. oh and because barca was desperate.
Of course we are making fun of it, it was downright stupid. do you see anyone making fun of PSG for Neymar, nope. We sign galacticos not numpties like Dembele lmao

Re: Ousmane Dembélé
Most transfers are hit and miss, Madrid just got lucky.
We'll see your moves on the market now after Cristiano left and Ramos, Modrić, Marcelo etc are on the last stretch of their career.
Your time will come. Already signing numpties like Conetois the snake who is at best on par with Keylor. Can't wait until we put 5 past him in the first Clasico.
Even Dembele scored past your beloved Conetois.
Pleb.

why do you say "now"? have history somewhat been erased prior to "now"? lmao
most transfers are not hit and miss, specially not when you spend 100+ mil. if that's the story you tell yourself, that's because you are used to your shit club not knowing how to sign. CR left yet we are not panic some 2nd rate player from Italy lmao
How bout Yerry Mina, signed in December gone by summer

Re: Ousmane Dembélé
Who cares about the fee? € 100M buys you nothing these days. Go and make a bid € 100M for Mbappe, Neymar, Pogba, Hazard, Kane, Erkisen, Griezmann and see how far it gets you.
How many young wingers with great potential can you name? Bayern still pulling Ribery and Robben from their graves. It only needs 1 great season for Dembélé for his price tag to skyrocket to € 200M.

Re: Ousmane Dembélé
Vinicius looks d*mn good too, only preseason of course, but far and away our most exciting player so far.
Prior to watching him, it's easy to scoff at 45m, but once you get one good look at him, you realize he has the tools to be a top top player.
It's a risk, yes, but a highly calculated risk, that at this point I can't see not paying off.

all transfers are a risk. just because people on here thinks any player that costs over 30mil should be a world beater dont make it true.vanDEEZ wrote:Vinicius looks d*mn good too, only preseason of course, but far and away our most exciting player so far.

Re: Ousmane Dembélé
Say what you will, but history says whenever we have paid a record setting fee, the transfer always has worked out. There are only two that you can question, that is Beckham, who was worth it from a marketing point of view and Bale who is still a work in progress.
For the most part, Perez has spent big dollars wisely. We do question why he hasn’t spent big last three seasons. Last two were primarily the result of Zidane insisting on not upsetting his starters (and for the most part he was right in regard to the one major competition). There were 2 possible signings he didn’t make (Pogba and Mbappe), not for signing fees but their demanded salary (and image rights). Perez is a lot of things, but to his credit financial discipline is one of his positive traits. He not about to upset the salary ladder nor club long time philosophy on image rights.
Now he is bothered by the heavy escalation of transfer fees, introduced and escalated by EPL clubs and PSG. He’s looking for another way and at the same time trying to replace aging players. He looked at the Barca model of old, but found our academy has run dry. So he is stocking up on young talent, hoping some will come thru. He will make that big purchase when one comes available, assuming that player will fit in the financial structure.
And R. Madrid is not the only big club trying to buck the escalation fee trend! How many big signings have Bayern done in past three years?

Re: Ousmane Dembélé
All have not worked out. Come on Bill. We paid a fortune for Cannavaro, Kaka, Danilo, Illaramendi, Robben, James Rodriguez and even Bale has been underwhelming. In the galactico days, we did nothing with Michael Owen. Walter Samuel. Woodgate. Sneijder (did nothing but be injured for us). Huntelaar. Diarra. Van Der Vaart.
That's just rubbish.

Not going to lie, Dembélé is still my wet dream to succeed Robben or Ribéry. What a *bleep* player. If Gnabry is worth 8m €, Dembélé surely is worth 100.

Re: Ousmane Dembélé
What I cannot understand is how did Dembele become such a big talking point over here. The guy had effectively half a season at a new club at 20-years-old. Yet some people are talking about him like he flopped in his prime while starting every match.

Re: Ousmane Dembélé
For their positions, a lot of those were record setting transfer fees or very close to it.
You can't just create some subjective filter to make your argument convenient.

Re: Ousmane Dembélé
Read above, they were saying R. Madrid shouldn’t talk about paying record transfer feeds and how they turned out. None of the ones you mentioned, except possibly Kaka (and I would agree with you on that one), we’re any where close to being a record transfer fee.
And who ever mentioned a transfer fee standard by position. I say it’s you who is changing the criteria to suit your argument, something you do quite often!

Re: Ousmane Dembélé
Are Real Madrid fans really going to hold a high horse in regards to extraordinary fees for players who didn't deserve them? Makes me question the age of the Real Madrid fanbase here.
Even now Real Madrid are dropping 90m on two 16/17 year olds from the Brazilian league

Its embarrassing tbh
They have spent gazillions on a plethora of flops yet dare to mock other clubs for what they've been doing for years and years
