Well, I for one, am not rooting for neither Atletico, nor Barcelona (contrary to popular belief), but this game just turned into a pile of shit

I ref, and I'm a lenient ref. I like to let people play, I wouldn't ref La Liga because those refs are of a different mentality from me. So I understand what you're saying Thimmy.

Thing is, it's not the refs job to make the match good. It's not his job to try and "avoid" giving out early reds. It's his job to enforce the rules. If the players are idiots like Torres, they might ruin the match by doing stupid things. We don't blame Howard Webb for ruining the 2010 WC final, we blame the Netherlands and their dirty play. If anything, he was too lenient, and famously gave De Jong a single yellow card for a karate kick studs up into Alonso's chest.

Regardless, watching an Atletico game, you probably shouldn't expect a good game

I get what you're saying. My point, though, is that he could've kept the second card in his pocket for a little while longer, and I'm sure no one would've blamed him for it. They were fouls worthy of yellow cards, according to the rule book, but no serious foul was committed. Busq's foul on Griezmann occured right after Torres was sent off, and he didn't seem to care about the rule book then. Good referees know when to let the play go on, although they could've just as well stopped the game.

The ref could've rightfully handed out more yellows, if he wanted to. He just doesn't seem to know whether he's strict or lenient.

Most, after seeing that the ref was not calling it and motioning for him to get up, imo.

Especially with the ball still in the vicinity.

Don't want to be that guy but Agusto Fernandez definitely a bit lucky to not get a straight red for that tackle on Alves.
