Manga and Anime

I always thought, and it's been years since I read it, that he was more so in love with the idea of her, couldn't really adjust to young adulthood and kept clinging onto the one pure thing from his childhood, and romanticizing youth is obviously a huge thing in Japan. I do agree it veered into wacky territory towards the end (especially that one plotline), but I still think it's one of the better coming of age stories. Some brutal moments in it. I agree with the first parts until High School being the best though.

Solanin's the best of his works outside of PunPun IMO, by a decent margin and is more relatable and realistic as a whole for most people in their early 20s, some of the others are ridiculously obscure. Girl On The Shore is def decent though. I recommend reading his earlier short story collections too, they were decent, one of them had a Tarantino vibe with the interconnecting stories.

etc, all pretty short, I think he's kinda fallen off for me in recent years, he's trying to move away from the sort of stories that defined him, he's still putting out decent stuff though just not the kinda things I really care about

Also can we finally put to rest the mockery of him being a bird boy in PunPun ffs, it was a good choice from the author.

The Girl On The Shore...yeah had to mentally edit the characters to uni students instead of middle schoolers.

Solanin is one of the best manga I have ever read. He actually released an epilogue this year. Beautiful manga, the art was not that good but the story and characters more than made up for it.

You find the epilogue online? was pretty crazy he released it for the 10 year anniv if I recall. I'd looked around for the epilogue, think I may have to buy it though.

Like I said some of his short story collections are worth it but now you've read his best works

I read Nijigahara Holograph or w/e from him and I still have no idea really what the point of it was or what was going on.

I'm not the biggest anime fan, but the concept for this is pretty cool.

Frivously consuming Berserk, maybe the best manga i've read ever. Got about a 100 chapters left though, gonna read Vinland Saga then Kingdom after.

Kingdom may be the GOAT marathon read..I trailed off after I caught up and the generic shounen tropes started to become prevalent, haven't read it in 4.5 years now. But for 400 chapters? ELITE.

So I won't say it's a waste of time.

Vinland Saga's prologue is the only thing I've read that's on par with Peak Berserk.

some prime Berserk tier betrayals and scenery in it ffs

not expecting ppl here to read it as I don't think delinquent and realistic stuff is the kinda thing ppl read/watch anime for

yeah kinda, but it's a seinen so it's aimed at adults (think Rainbow was too)

yeah I quite liked it and thought it was refreshing it wasn't your usual, guy just assembles a bunch of hot girls and then gets with them. But apparently that's what it turns into. Ain't nobody etc.
