I think he got a couple of lucky corner-kick goals, but if his name wasn't Schweinsteiger, people would be laughing at United for buying another Garrick to solve their midfield issues.
Carrick was never a problem in Utds midfield IMO. He's a great player, end of.
Utd's problems of course are more due to van Gaal chasing the best players out of court (let's not forget they had managed to buy di Maria), not using Herrera, buying inconsistent youngsters instead; getting Schweinsteiger for a few million pound is not one of them

Re: Which players are quietly having a bad season?
Schneiderlin, along with Martial, has been one our best signings this year. Does the dirty work quitely. The fact he doesn't play a box to box role and doesn't impose himself in matches, like he did at Saints, comes across as though he doesn't contribute much, but he does. Tackle, intercept, pass *repeat*. He's been vital for our sound defensive record. Our defence has looked shakey since he's been injured and that's telling enough.
Schweinstiger has been average. Does a decent job, controls possession...that's it. Doesn't really offer nothing else in this Utd team. Don't like the way LVG has been scapegoating him recently, ******

I've seen a lot of United fans being fed up with Mata's performances.

Jordi Alba. He's merely an "okay" player anyway but this season he's playing bad even for his standards.

If you removed the word "quietly" from the title, every single one of our players bar Navas and Modric would fit the description perfectly.

I'd add Bale to that list of exceptions. He's been surprisingly good when he's been fit. Our fullbacks have been decent, bar Danilo.

Bale been loud doe
Agreed with futbol on Alba, I was wondering out loud during the game against Sevilla why he still starts for us. I'd take him as a backup.
Schweini has been pretty awful every time I've watched him, while Schneiderlin has been good.

Alba an okay player.
He is probably having his weakest seasons with us and he is not the best left back in the world, but definitely one of the bests. Hard to find a better left back than him available.

I forgot the fact that Jovetic and Perisic joined Inter this summer. Tells you about their performance recently.

Re: Which players are quietly having a bad season?
I will add Carrick into that bracket. The thing with Carrick in general is if he has a good game in say 5 games, our fans will overlook the bad games and sing praises of that one good game. Being an English player, the media too plays their part in that.
Carrick had an exceptional season last year no denying that. But ever since this season he has been pretty dire and it fits this thread too like a T, as he is managing to do it quietly without anyone noticing. The amount of times he has given the ball away this season is quite extraordinary. yet fans will call him the English Xavi and gloat their throats out when one of his Hollywood passes find the target. Both positionally and defensively the guy has been a disaster this season.
Yaa Schweinsteiger too is doing it quietly thats correct btw.

scored more goals than Luiz Adriano tbh
anyway it's enough normal , simply they don't play under Mancini (or at least, the first. Rumours report he broke with Mancini after Inter-Lazio in December.. but he performed just his first 2 months though )

I don't think Enrique likes him very much (understandably). At the beginning he even tried Mathieu at leftback in the big games (Clasico) but it didn't work out. Lack of alternatives unfortunately, fullback market is very thin, mostly just failed wingers like Alba available.

Felipe Anderson. Compared to last season, seems like he dropped off a few bars.

You surely can't expect too much from him? Dude is on his last legs.Glory wrote:I will add Carrick into that bracket. This is the problem. The only truly elite LBs are Marcelo and Alaba, both of which are impossible. Strange to see such a lack of quality in one position.

Pretty sure Lucho would take Marcelo over Alba if he got the chance. In a system that is working like clockwork, where players are interconnecting extremely well, Alba just stands out like a sore thumb.
Speaking of which, Madrid have like 6 of those.

Benzema will always be a sensitive topic on this forum He hasn't been bad at all, but I will humbly argue that he's been below his usual standards during times when we've struggled to create goal-scoring chances.

Marcelo over Alba is a no brainer. They are equally bad defensively but Marcelo is so much better offensively. Alba is useless offensively. Has no partnership whatsoever with Neymar (how can you have no chemistry with Neymar? ). The amount of times he gets played into dangerous positions and does nothing of note but backpassing, blind crossing and missing sitters is unreal. Pleb of a player. His antics are the cherry on the top. Getting into the face of players twice his size.
