French Prime Minister Valls opens the door for Barca to join Ligue 1

It appears that the Catalan nationalist cause has found an overseas ally. French Prime Minister Manuel Valls has opened the doors to the French League to the Catalan giants.

An article in the magazine 'Challenges' said that the politician, who is a massive Barça fan, is willing to offer the Catalan club a place in France's top flight. "All things considered, Monaco play in the French League, so..." said Manuel Valls in France.

In an interview in 'el Journal du Dimanche', the French Prime Minister spoke of his love for FC Barcelona. "When I was a teenager, back in August 1975, a few weeks before Franco died, I remember the amazing atmosphere there was inside the stadium. Barça's history is not only linked to football. I'm a huge football fan, a Barça fan. They're in my blood. France knows it and they ask me about it on the streets".

Yeah never gonna happen. Tbh I'm glad, Barca in Serie A would at least make for an entertaining and competitive league. Barca in Ligue 1 would be a joke.

They already have the system set up because Monaco is there for non-national teams... it's very easily done.  They don't have to change a thing with any of the contracts, bylaws, etc. because it's all already in place.

Besides, Valls would never make such a statement unless he had already talked to Barca and gotten some positive feedback...  he's the prime minister of the country.  He doesn't stick his neck out without assurances.

Not saying it will happen at all... longshot.  But it does mean that it's been talked about.

Barcelona brand and Real madrid brand need each other. Just for financials reasons FCB will always stay in La liga no matter what.

This is not a football decision.. it's a national decision. Football is very very secondary. If Catalunya becomes its own country, it will do everything it can to separate itself from Spain.

Barca and Madrid are both big enough brands that they don't need each other anyhow.

Would be interesting to see how Ligue 1 would advertise itself and how it would affect the teams/barca should it ever happen.
La Liga would still survive so long as Atletico stays competitive aka simeone never leaves.

Read on article this weekend where they were talking about bringing in all the Catalunya teams in Ligue 1 and having the southern teams join them to make two divisions of 12-15 teams... the winner of each division would play in a home-away tie at the end of the season to decide the overall Ligue 1 champion.

I love the concept.

Other interesting part was that only 1 team from each division would face relegation... so only two spots would change every season.  The thinking is that relegation risk is impeding long term investment into football... and i agree to a certain extent.

As if this guy is still prime minister in 2036 when Catalunya becomes independent.

Honestly disgusting behavior from them. If Catalonia actually gained independence, I think we all know these same people would gladly let Barca stay. The commercial loss would just be too great.

They're only saying this now to scare Catalans away from pursuing this.

Imagine the absolute banter if 3 of the top 4 leagues turned in to unquestionable 1 horse races.


Well imo 4 of the top 4 leagues because SPL is GOAT and will surpass the BPL when Rangers are back to dominate.

This would be good, although I don't know if it would be any more fair than playing in Spain, as Barcelona would still be a non national team. Don't follow Ligue 1 so don't know if Monaco is treated fairly.

Most definitely Ligue 1 doesn't have system in place like Real Madrid has, that every official from referees, those who choose referees, judges, prosecutors, investigators, everybody associated anything in Spain handling football are corrupted by them and they control everything.

I reckon Barca would definitely be treated much better in Ligue 1 than they are in La Liga, no Madrid corruption and PSG definitely don't have the sort of sickening political force that Madrid do.

i know, my point was that PSG can match them in that aspect unlike any Serie A team .

Just did quick calculation and the travelling distance would actually shorten if Barcelona moved to Ligue 1.

Barcelona Travel Distance (on air)

15-16 La Liga 23989 km
15-16 Ligue 22922 km (in place of Troyes)

Would be an awful decision for ligue 1

PSG already have destroyed the league. Barcelona will SPL it completely.
