tbh i didnt really care about Eli. It was good to see him as a kid but not bothered about that cut mission like most.

Game needed an act 3 about Big Boss and then act 4 about linking MGS5 with MG1

finally a MGS fan that finished it here and isn't viewing it through rose tinted glasses
but yeah watch the cut content on youtube
i'm still confounded by how well the game was received considering it was straight up incomplete
if the MGS and Kojima names weren't attached to this project it wouldn't even be in contention for GOTY

WTF!!!
Everything about that, the concept art, cutscene, boss fight and story looks epic. Would have been one of the all time great MGS sequences. Seriously pissed we got robbed of that.
I am really angry right now.

Without completing the game i'd say the criticism i have heard so far is more damning is the apparent repetitiveness of the missions rather than the cut content.
Games cut content all the time, it's not that huge of a deal to me.

What puzzles me most is that Kojima mentioned that the game was in the polishing stages around mid 2014. And most of the trailers show scenes from the end missions. who knows tho

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Part II
Sigh...I have a lot to say. Let's start of with the good.
The game was fantastic. Despite everything, despite being clearly unfinished, it still is one of the best games I have ever played. The apparent repetitiveness of missions was hardly noticeable to me because the gameplay was so good and how you could vary your playing style especially with the plethora of items that become availible to you as you progress (sleep mines, smoke grenades, decoys) the game and how you yourself learn little things that help (cardboard box things, subduing enemies with guns). The story, the parts which were finished was all very good. Incredible writing. My only complaint about Chapter 1 is I wish we saw more of Skull Face. Oh and Snake being such a mute I did not mind chapter 2 as some but am incredibly irked at the cut mission 51 which looked like it would be the best mission of the game. We are heading to spoiler territory now.

- Spoiler:
- A Quiet Exit ending was brilliant. As was the last Paz tape. Seriously the last Paz cassette tape was beautiful. Paz will always live on in Big Boss. Even though she was actually a Cipher agent, she will always be his angel of peace. Except not. He is not Big Boss. He is a random medic.
Yeah about that. I saw the twist coming. The execution was great with the reflection on the mirror, Boss addressing me by me real name (that's the name I picked) and especially the final cutscene clearly being Venom Snake receiving instructions from Big Boss and then heading of to face Solid Snake.
But I thought this game was supposed to show how Big Boss became a villain? Kojima said his game was supposed to be about his descent to darkness. I thought this game would make us hate the most beloved character of the series? Instead it was game on Venom Snake's heroic actions. What was the point of playing as Venom? To explain a 30 year old plothole? Or to tie to the theme of those whose names are forgotten? Or to have the meta "we are big boss" message to us, the fans?
I saw a great example on Reddit. If Dumbledore suddenly killed murdered Harry on the sixth book no one would hate Dumbledore, they would hate the writing because that would make no sense. Why does Big Boss seem a complete different person in his coma? The post credit scene of Peace Walker is when he became a villain? I get he did a villain-ish thing by agreeing to the Venom Snake ruse. He kinda became what he hated. But how did he get to that point? Peace Walker post credit scenes laid the seeds. He rejected The Boss's will and started making plans for his own will. Outer Heaven. So to save his ass he let Venom take the fire while I'm assuming he was in South Africa building Outer Heaven. That's just out of character. Kojima could have used this game to show us how Big Boss created Outer Heaven and became a villain instead of focusing on Venom Snake, who is also a goddamn superhero if I ever seen one.
I knew this game solely takes place in 1984. So I knew there would be no Sniper Wolf, Drebin and Raiden as child soldiers, Solidus Snake, Gray Fox etc. But man Kojima could really have added them and be more flexible. How awesome would it have been to see Big Boss stumble on a lookalike and we meet Solidus? And to see Raiden, trained by Solidus to be Jack the Ripper in Libya? A cameo by Drebin as a child soldier in Uganda? Or a mission where you rescue Sniper Wolf in Iran? Nah all we got was Afghanistan and Zaire-Angola in 1984. The open world was good but GTFO RG better than GTA 5 lmfao. And even with the restriction, I can still see room for improvement. Why is Afghanistan filled with Russians, why could we not have some Mujahideen fighters who we could aid and they in turn help us? Why could we not have some parts in Africa be a literal warzone with opposing sides like in MGS4?
It's obvious Kojima wanted more. Both Konami and Kojima are to blame here. Kojima did this before, he has unrealistic ambitions and that cost Konami a lot of money. Konami were dicks about the whole situation too. I'm pretty sure that the rumors of the planned last mission being a losing boss battle against Solid Snake are true, especially after the last cutscene clearly taking place right before Venom vs Solid. And also a few years back Yoji Shinkawa was openly talking about drawing a young Solid Snake, there is even a picture of it. And my my the marketing was so deceptive. Remember the Les Enfant Terribles to the trailer where it looked like Solid and Liquid were sitting together? Just lol. Right up there with blatantly lying about the game being the story about how Big Boss became a villain.
Also wow at Huey being such a despicable pos. Guess this was Kojima's response to the negative reaction to Huey on Peace Walker. Some fans were like "Boo he is an exact copy of Otacon? Huey and Big Boss were BFFs too? Lame" Ocelot saying one day he will see through his lies and be confronted with his true self...yeah I'm pretty sure that was when his second wife seduces Otacon. He does not commit suicide just because of that. Everything caught up to him. It's cool to know that Strangelove created the Patriots AI. Also Zero face turn was surprising. Speaking of Zero...
His absence is what bothered me the most. Maybe he would have shown up in person if the five chapters rumor is true. Now that Kojima has left, there goes all hope of a Big Boss vs Zero game. They could have done that this game and also thrown Liquid on the mix as a wild card. And if Kojima went through the trouble of bringing Volgin back to life, he could have made it better. A chapter with a vengeful Volgin (who has sense and can speak) coming for revenge against Big Boss and Ocelot would have been amazing. FFS they could have done so much more with this huge time gap between Peace Walker and the first Metal Gear.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Part II
The short answer to all of those burning questions is "you make your own interpretation" That's what Kojima has left us with. You decide what happened. He isn't going to give you the direct answers as he never has in any of MGS games.
Most fans have build their own interpretations of what happened in the mean time, in those gap years and that 'mirror' scene. There are literally 1000 explanations of that mirror scene with all of them being right and all of them being wrong. There isn't any definitive answer

- Spoiler:
This game did show us why Big Boss ended up being a villain, but like I said, it's not an official explanation but my own interpretation. I will write up at some point about what I think happened and why Big Boss is the biggest pos ever because i genuinely think the game showed us his worst side.
Also I absolutely love Venom Snake. One of my all time fav MGS character. Kojima even in his last ever mgs game showed us that he is the master of developing characters

Oh and that 'mirror' scene is my favourite gaming moment of 2015. When they say a picture is worth a thousand words. That scene is worth 100000000 words. So much emotions and you can literally feel the entire MGS saga revolve around that scene.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Part II
- Spoiler:
- What could have possibly happened in the gap years? Big Boss was in a coma for nine years too.
Big Boss was a hero and this game so far does not have any explanation on why he became a villain. He just wakes up, agrees to the Venom ruse, and goes on to build Outer Heaven.
Then again, you could argue he never was a villain since Solid Snake was just pawn of the Patriots. The Patriots AI wanted Big Boss dead and Solid was their killer.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Part II
- Spoiler:
Read somewhere that entire snake family(including venom now) were pawns of the system. It all started with The Boss who was played by her country to Big Boss who was played by the government to Solid who was played by everyone to Liquid who in fairness was always a head case was also played by Ocelot and Mantis to Venom who was played by Big Boss and Zero. Big Boss was a war mongerer. He misinterpreted The Boss will and decided to twist it in his own way to create an army with no nation even if it took brainwashing and using child soldiers. He had good intentions though but his methods were wrong. And due to that he always suffered.
All you can do in the end is to feel sorry for each character but everything they did, they owned up to it. Big Boss isn't a villain for some and he isn't a hero for many. Solid the ultimate good guy isn't really all that good considering the amount of people he kills without remorse.
Big Boss let the hospital massacre happen and had absolutely no problem with it. He brainwashed a medic into taking all the blame and exploiting his loyalty for his own benefits. MGS5 actually makes you think what Big Boss would have done instead of Venom.
Venom is truly a hero. Big Boss would have killed quiet. He wouldn't have wasted a second before pulling the trigger on those sick comrades. He deserted his closest 'friend' in Miller and didn't look behind even once. Venom built an entire nation of army who loved him. Saved the world from Skullface's plan. Saved every single child soldier and tried to give them a good life instead of training them.
In the end you decide who were the real heroes and villains of the saga.
But also remember we are all big boss (:

- Spoiler:
- I don't disagree with the fact that Big Boss does villainous stuff. But how does he get to that point? He was hero on Peace Walker and after the coma he just changes? Did he go to a mind palace while in a coma like Sherlock? The marketing in this game said his descent to darkness will be shown. But no all we got was some random darkness.
Btw how did he let the hospital massacre happen? What was he supposed to do? Those were Skull Face's men who came and caused the massacre, there was nothing more Big Boss could have done. Also we will never know what Big Boss would do if he was on Venom shoes. Remember he is quite compassionate. He spared Ocelot for being a kid and even after The Boss's death damaged him he still went out of his way to save any others like Chico, Amanda, the Sandinista rebels, Huey etc on Peace Walker. Even after 1984 he saves war orphans and helped bring back child soldiers to society. Like Sniper Wolf, Gray Fox and Naomi.
Also Big Boss misinterpreted shit. This is why you should have played Peace Walker. He never misinterpreted The Boss's will. He rejects it and crafts his own will.
His dream was to stop deaths like The Boss ever happening. He wanted a world where soldiers were not pawns. If he got what he wanted the shit that Solid Snake and Raiden goes through would never have happened. He had noble intentions but some of his methods were wrong.
Sigh this unfinished mess of a story messed up character development and story arcs. I can't believe you are all satisfied with it. I just hope somehow some way we at least get a DLC of Mission 51.

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Part II
Btw as a character Big Boss>Solid Snake. Far more complex and has a better story arc. Kojima said so himself that he rates Big Boss higher.
As a soldier we will never know since the two never faced each other in their prime. Their accomplishments are almost the same. But I do remember when they were both old as f Big Boss easily disarmed Solid with the CQC hug

Re: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Part II
- Spoiler:
- In PW, BB mentions eliminating Paz and the voice of reason is Kaz telling him that it would be better to keep her alive to ask her about her captors. He had no issues with getting rid of Paz, yet Venom Snake had that whole subplot where he was trying to cope with her death. He's so much into the idea of revenge after 9 years that he immediately (after making sure his Phantom is alive) leaves everything to Venom Snake in order to get closer to his enemy (The Patriots/ Patriot AI) and eventually bring them down, even if it meant doing what he goes on to do later in MG2 no matter how many lives he had to take to get it done. Also, the child soldiers in MG2 at Zanzibar Land adore Big Boss. He saved them from conflict zones, but does raise them to be soldiers. This is the original Big Boss, as by the end of MG1, Venom is dead. Big Boss is distorted between the events of MGS3,PW and GZ (losing his soldiers, base, limb, and possibly 9 years of his life due to a set up, I'm sure this had made him quite bitter). Venom has a sinister descent himself that we see in MGSV.
BB already had the descent, and i agree with what RG said on interpretation. Its just not a clear, obvious not what people wanted. Look at MGS3 (His biggest betrayal) , the entirety of PW (Paz), and GZ (The whole ruse with Skullface) and try to tell me that he didn't already descend into madness.
