Mustafi is a fine player but Mascherano is a former NT captain, an experienced winner at many levels and Messi's friend..to bench him, you need to be clearly better than him in more ways than just a defender.

He's still Argentina's captain, he is the one that gives speaches and makes sure everyone is doing their job. Messi just wears the armband and leads by example, but that's what he did before as well.

He can't keep hold of his own job let alone making sure everyone is doing theirs. If he keeps up this shit form Verm will bench him anyway when he's back.

Your talking about merit, which is the issue. I can probably argue on merit, Mathieu is a better CB than Mascherano..on merit, Bartra hasnt really made worst mistake. But Maascherano will always play before these guys. Mustafi is no different.

Arda is class. He's experienced and proven in La liga, he's tough and likes to have the ball at his feet. Gumbau and Roberto are just passengers in midfield.

i'm never really convinced with PL players who are good for their dribbling... they usually come to la liga and start under performing

the issue i think many of us share is that we're looking for xavi and iniesta like players so we can get back to our amazing form we had in 2010-11 etc
which is nice and all but we're never going to get to that level because quiet frankly there is no player like xavi or iniesta currently only a worse version of them.

Coutinho was good for Espanyol though. Can't really say he wouldn't perform in La Liga. He didn't get allot of time, but was so much younger and was already showing his flashes of brilliance.

I just think that our current need is not a Coutinho type player....plus isn't what we signed Arda for? The attacking mid to rotate with Iniesta. We still need a solid holding/true midfielder who will help us not get wrekt in possession and will help build up play. And if we are looking to sign a Pedro replacement...then why not actually sign a winger? Coutinho isn't a winger, Rodgers just played him on the wing cause Liverpool doesn't have any wingers so they needed him to play there. I mean look at the amount of assists Deulofeu already has. This club is so ridiculous.

Jesus christ I hate the Arda signing, lmao. Even though I do want him registered just cause we currently need all the help we can get...I still think he was a desperation signing just to help Fart win the election more than he was a thought out, smart signing.
