However, watching the video in the Guardian article again this doesn't make any sense.

The ref gives Pique the red about half a second after he's finished shouting to the linesman. No way the ref could've heard what Pique said, and the linesman didn't have time to tell him over the headphone.

Also, if he's saying what is alleged, why would he simultaneously point with his arm as if to signal they made a mistake back THERE? Unless he meant, 'I'll shit on your whoring mother right back there where the Bilbao attacker was a yard offside'

Shouldn't it though?! What is to say a ref wouldn't straight up lie against a footballer simply because he just doesn't like him. Always found it odd a ref's word is final but that's just my own thoughts on this matter.

Regardless, Pique has been yelling at refs all across Spain for a good while. Laws of average probably dictate he would have gotten himself in serious trouble for that.
