Re: Sergio Romero
Holy moly, I didn't really imagine Romero in our shirt yet. Is a good thing to have a decent 2nd goalkeeper in the squad, thing which didn't happen in the past decad.
Now we should be able to rest De Gea (we did it in the past but not succesfully) in the cups and use Romero with the confidence that he will have at least decent, or why not, excellent performances which could lead us to winning some trophies.
Welcome Sergio Romero!

Re: Sergio Romero
This frightens me!
Louis van Gaal wrote:“I know him very well and I think in our situation, if De Gea is going or not going, it is always a threat and we have to take care, make sure that we are prepared and that is why I think it is very good that Sergio Romero is now a Manchester United player.”

Re: Sergio Romero
Asked what he likes and admires about Romero, van Gaal continued: "He is a goalkeeper and he stops the balls."

Re: Sergio Romero
He has to be a decent keeper as long as he stays at Man United cause we don't need a clown in the goalpost.

Re: Sergio Romero
Not a fan of this transfer honestly. And LvG as if he thinks only those players matter who have previously worked with him overlooking all the rest. We could have bought a better younger keeper from Bundesliga for cheap if it was backup we were after.
Or Would have rather given Johnstone the opportunity or the new Serbian kid.
Buying someone like Valdes is one thing. And even that didnt work out, a player lvg rated previously. Why Go the same route once again.
Romero is a very limited keeper who is nowhere near the level we aspire. Watch him become our no.1 choice now one way or the other may be next season. Will be in big trouble in that case.

Re: Sergio Romero
De Gea is a coward if he leaves.
Romero is decent and will probably be better than Lindegaard as a 2nd choice. If De Gea leaves, we have to buy another future world-class GK.
Anyway, I belive De Gea will stay, he is too intelligent to leave.

Re: Sergio Romero
Dont think woody would give in to that if it wont involve a player in return. May be we will get Keylor Navas or some scrub like that and we will sell ddg for 20-25 mil along with that.
I am also a firm believer that madrid's ego wont allow them to abandon the business for an entire year. If it was any other club, they would have probably, but not madrid. They are far from done yet and even amid positive (from our perspective) comments from benitez most certainly they will come back with improved terms.
If real get ddg this season itself, I am pretty sure for 1 year at least romero will be our no.1. Where as if we keep ddg for 1 more year then probably the year after we may have a different better no.1.
So yea, the onus rightfully is on keeping ddgoat for now.

Re: Sergio Romero
Even his Youtube highlights are dodgy, it's as if he's allergic to catching the ball from simple saves.
Hope he does well for us (obviously).

If De Gea did leave now (still don't think he will) I hope we ask for Navas from Madrid, they just bought Casilla and Navas is too good to be a back up.
forget Ramos

Navas isn't that good mate, you can do a lot better.

Re: Sergio Romero
Yep. Navas is basically Romero with superior shot stopping attributes. Theres no much difference between the 2 tbh.
Romero's biggest plus on the other hand is his fight and attitude. Mentally he is strong.
He is a player who can rise to an occasion but then falter altogether in the next game against an inferior side. He can be a decent cup option therefore for us. But his general shot stopping and other basic attributes are quite ordinary. He will need someone who can constantly keep him alerted and on his toes in the defense, a leader figure which we are badly lacking right now.

Well, there are at least half a dozen promising gks playing in Germany I believe. ( RWO can confirm )
We could have bought one of them instead for cheap, but then that can happen next year as well thats true.
Furthermore Lindegard, Johnstone, Milinkovic is a decent set of gks to be backups.

Re: Sergio Romero
why is Navas not that good now?
Not that I have vast knowledge, but last I checked he was best La Liga keeper and had a beastial WC before he transfered to Reals bench.
So why is he 'not that good'? Pls explain.
Also, so apparently De Gea is a 'coward' for choosing the cozy security of becoming a Real player succeding Casillas, over the lion's den situation he's having now at Man Utd, where he was relentlessly hyped and adored last 2 seasons

Re: Sergio Romero
Best keeper in La Liga
He's never been anything more than average, that was just standard ridiculous hype by Madrid fans and media.
Also he wouldn't be the first average player to have a good WC, every WC is full of crap players looking like gods.
