Basically, if Benzema does become available, we should 100% sign him and worry about the potential knock-on effects on the squad later. I don't think saying "well, we didn't sign him because we wanted to give more games to Walcott/Welbeck/Wilshere/whoever" would be justified, given the need to improve on Giroud.

It's basically the same situation as it was with Cech.
