Who will we get?
QF: Opponents for Barcelona
I think after Messi good performance UEFA him an easy opponent to stat pad against
That aside, Obviously the two I provided would be the preferred draw, but we also could land Either Madrid side, Bayern, PSG, Juve.
1. Porto
2. Monaco
3. PSG (they won't have Ibra and Verratti for the first leg)
4. A. Madrid
5. Juve
6. R. Madrid
7. Bayern

I don't say it would be easy but I'd like Juve.
It would be revenge for this extra time goal after all these years

Re: QF: Opponents for Barcelona
I think the two everyone prefers to face are Monaco or Porto. Im bias, still I believe Porto are stronger....but at the same I would rather face them.
Monaco will come to defend and hit on break, Porto will let us play. Porto under former Spain U21 coach are more and more a possession team and an offensive one...they already were and have been since Mourinho a team which is dangerous with the ball but suffers without it, but its even more pronounced now I believe.
Out of the "stronger" teams, Bayern are the team I dont want to see. Madrid next, I dont want to play against. I feel Atletico arent inferior, but Madrid would make me more anxious because of who they are.
I am worried by PSG because of the confidence they have from beating Chelsea, plus the surprisingly effective mix of spirit/heart/leadership that Thiago Silva and Luiz provide.
Juve normally wouldnt worry me much, but Tevez looks really sharp, they have the kind of midfield to give us problems and Allegri knows exactly what gameplan to use. He really is one of the best coaches on a tactical level in the game IMO.
My Order is
Porto, Monaco
Gap
Atletico
Gap
Juve
Gap
PSG, Madrid
HUGE GAP
Bayern
I think we have a much better chance vs Bayern than last time, I think we will cause them problems in the defence...but it would hurt to watch us suffer without the ball for such big stretches in the game.

Re: QF: Opponents for Barcelona
The only reason why I put Juve ahead of PSG in terms of preference is that PSG gained experienced playing against us before, they know what to expect.
Tactically both them and Juve worry me and I think they have similar talent levels, but the extra "experience" makes me worry a little more.

Re: QF: Opponents for Barcelona
What are the odds Mehdrid get Monaco or Porto while we get Bayern?
They always seem to get the red carpet route.
I voted Monaco but I am fairly confident about us winning against anyone with Messi in this sort of form.
He is unplayable in this sort of form and that makes us the favorites for the CL imo.
I can look at it from a tactical and personnel point of view to pick preferred opponents.
But with Messi in this form and Suarez bringing an added dimension, dont care who we get.We will win.

Re: QF: Opponents for Barcelona
If Suarez and Nerman finish the way they did yesterday then no kind of Messi form will get us a UCL trophy. After all he did miss a PK, and didn't score at all over two games. So if the guys he is setting up shit the bed then what good does his incredible form do us? Plus Pique and Alba have imporved but that backline is still not rock solid and Ter Stegen makes me nervous. Plus I don't trust Lucho to have to tactical know how on how to out smart some of the other remaing managers left in the tourney.
I have faith in our club but I don't think we should be labeled as favorites by any means. We are beatable

Re: QF: Opponents for Barcelona
tbh there's no clear favorite now.
Madrid are having a questionable form period and Bayern haven't really been tested.
So if you ask me I can't really say who's the favorite

Re: QF: Opponents for Barcelona
I think the atrocious finishing was a one off.Such things do happen. No way we are that bad again.
On the backline,I think it is solid enough.Pique-Mathieu is a very good CB partnership.
Sure we can lose. But I just feel that Messi is in the form of his life and I havent seen anyone play at this level before. With Suarez bringing an extra dimension and providing Messi that extra half a yard of space,I would fancy our chance against anyone.
Ofcourse if Messi has an off day,the system collapses and we lose.Which is why the caveat(Messi in this sort of form).

1. Porto
2. Monaco
3. Atletico
4. PSG
5. Juve
6. Madrid
7. Bayern
After Porto and Monaco it's bad against anyone, with Bayern being the team I would like to face least by quite a margin.
I fancy our chances against Atletico. PSG is tough but I fancy our chances there as well. Juve and Madrid are picks that really worry me, while Bayern is a pick that would have me predicting our doom.

We usually have one game a season where we can't finish our chances to save our lives, which just happened to be last night. Thankfully, we weren't punished for it.

Re: QF: Opponents for Barcelona
So what's up with everyone acting like Nerman and Suarez are the cause of our problems.. Yes, they missed chances yesterday, but so did messi, sometimes these things happen where the ball refuses to go in. Just deal with it. Btw, dunno if its just me, aside our finishing MSN were goat against city, I mean we basically tore them to shreds and trust me if we have that sort of game against mehdrid plus good finishing, it would be another manita.
BTW, we all know we'll get buyern or PSG at the very least and mehdrid will get Monaco..dunno why its so hard to figure out.

Re: QF: Opponents for Barcelona
Sometimes, its better not to show our full strength. The tie was already won in the 30 mins and Bayern Spie was in the stadium.so that was a great decision from coach Messi not to finish all chances .
btw, Pogba and Ibra both are out for first leg, meaning the teams will be understrength for sure. I am happy with anyone as long as Madrid does not get Porto or Monaco (which is impossible)

Re: QF: Opponents for Barcelona
Alex you think we would beat Bayern?
I think we would stand a fair shot at it, I am sure our front 3 will cause them our problems with the midfield being competitive defensively.
But how we will cope with them circulating the ball and making us run, with Neymar sometimes helping Alba (and in turn killing our main source of speed in behind the defence) and nobody helping Alves?
How do we go about trying to find our way from the back and into the midfield consistently?
We would really be relying on Messi putting in an incredibly strong performance which includes work rate and defending to go with him controlling the game as much as possible.

Assuming we go through, which is by no means guaranteed, would you guys rather face Bayern on the semis or final?

Re: QF: Opponents for Barcelona
Honestly if I was Coachessi when you play Bayern I'd bench Neymar for Mathieu.
Alves----Mathieu--Pique----Mascherano---Alba
-------------------Busquets
------------Rakitic------Iniesta
--------------------Messi
--------------------Suarez
Only way I see you dealing with a team that beats you in the possession battle, as unorthodox as it may be. 99% of teams struggle against Bayern with 11 men defending, no way you beat them with your current setup of 8.

Re: QF: Opponents for Barcelona
The final, BC.
The logic I have here is, the longer a game goes usually the better team wins because they have more time to play like it.
Unless you can do a great tactical job and how can I have confidence Enrique will outsmart Pep?
Plus, less time means every individual error is more costly, less time to redeem it.
A last man foul on Neymar running throw by Boateng, Bayern down to the 10...anything can happen with no chance Bayern can recover.

On the other hand, the final is in Berlin, surely that will give them some 'home' advantage?
