Re: Arsenal Lobby
I don't think Wenger is leaving for the next two years, he never skips out on a contract so wouldn't that be a bit too soon for that thread?

That is exactly why it would make sense - keep an eye for the future. If everything were set in stone, there is no scope for out of box ideas Although I know what you mean.. It can easily be morphed into a Wenger-sucks and I-want-the-Next-Jesus-Christ thread..

And it could just go the other way when we're in good form.

The simplest observation over this season has been how pathetic we play when the opponent presses well. We have no answer to that. It's as simple as that to make us drop points.

You remember how we used to get mauled playing against bigger physical teams who put in a lot of long balls and crosses? We have a new Achilles now.

Re: Arsenal Lobby
Countering a high press needs players to be composed so that they can make the right passes and the right decisions. Midfielders also need to be brave with their movement so that they're not only offering an out for the defenders but also moving into space so they can start attacks.
Against Spurs, we didn't have the composure needed and were too keen to clear our lines, probably because when we did try to pass it out our passing wasn't good enough. There'll be games like that where the other team is just physically and mentally sharper and there's not a lot you can do about it.
Not knowing what goes on in training, I obviously can't say this for certain, but it doesn't appear to me that we prepare for teams who press high. We're a side very much used to being allowed to play out from the back and in some ways that masks the fact that we're not at all comfortable when we don't have that time.

Re: Arsenal Lobby
There is two ways to do it
1. Playing with cool head, sit back and soak up pressure. This obviously requires everyone does everything right like Jay said, the Mou-Inter way and not in million years we could play like that. City game was great, Spurs was shit so we don't have discipline, mentality, blueprint or whatever for it
2. Being lucky and have godly freaking trident on top like MNS who damn destroyed everything. I watched Barca a lots recently and they got pressed like no other team but good lord, just the balls fell on one of those three you know the other teams shat their pants.

Re: Arsenal Lobby
Which basically means that for the next few years, we will continue to be frustrated by any half decent team which knows how to press. By the time we figure out how to deal with that, we will probably go back to being unable to deal with set pieces and long balls, or something else will come up.
The more time passes, the more the invincibles seem like a blip in normal service.
