What makes Benteke an awful signing in your opinion?

I'm also ok with Sterling being sold as long as it facilitates bringing in an elite/potentially elite goal scorer that actually wants to play for us.

I simply don't think he's that good or consistent.

Plus he really doesn't fit how we want to play. While he's got speed and movement and attributes you would think would work in our side, he simply doesn't play like that. He's similar to Bony where he plays as a target man more than how we use our ST. I don't think he will all of a sudden change and become a Sturridge-like ST. Balotelli and Lambert didn't work. Carroll didn't work. We don't need a lump to play with his back to goal. We need a number 9 similar to Sturridge, Lacazette and Vietto are perfect examples of that, Benteke is not.

Also he's already been benched by Origi at NT level, enough said there.

Oh my lord imagine when they're all 25. That's the sort of midfield in their prime that is good enough to take us deep in CL provided they actually improve accordingly with age and reach their potentials and we don't sell them like pussies.

Well my biggest problem with Benteke is he also has slight injury issues. But on his day the guy is a beast.

And obviously the price tag being suggested is obnoxious

I think our fanbase rates Benteke more than others simply because he always shows up against Liverpool. I think he's only ever had 1 poor game against Liverpool and that was the 0-2 in January of this year.

But really if you watch him on a consistent basis, he's not very good. Not to warrant even 20m or to play as a starter for us.

Consistency is Benteke's only issue for me. He seems to only show up in the second half of the season (which is not necessarily a bad thing if the rest of the team can 'carry' him through the first half). Truth be told he is still only 24 and not in his prime either. Even taking into consideration his half season splits he is a 1 goal every 2 games striker in the Prem playing for Aston Villa. If he were playing for Liverpool he'd have better service, more instruction, and right now we would kill to have had a 1 in 2 striker this season.

Is he worth 30m? I guess it depends on if you think he can put it all together for us (at which point he'd probably be worth more). He's not a one season wonder though he's scored everywhere he's been. Also he doesn't play like a target man he's just a very good all-around striker and is dominant in the air -- he makes a lot of smart movement and can actually do something on the ball as well.

Still, we could do a lot worse in the summer than Benteke + Kovacic and a RB/GK.


That is solid, IMO, good depth and realistic. Obviously we would prefer to bring in better talents, but that is unlikely in our current position.

we should f go all in for Higuain or Lacazette. I know both Arsenal and ManUtd will be looking for a striker but we have to at least go out and bid for them. If it seems clear within few days, they wont come to us then get the likes of Benteke Benteke sholuld not be our first choice and if he is, then they should all go and suicide at some other club not here !

Do people really want another big, strong lad who isn't that quick or mobile as our primary striker? I would have thought this season demonstrated clearly what happens when you try to play a player like Benteke in a system that requires pace, movement, and on-the-ball ability.


And please provide sources, as it allows us to recognize which rumours are worth considering, and which are completely made up (as has indeed happened in this thread).

Exactly my thoughts RedO, I have no idea why people on here are actually justifying Benteke rumors.

I dont think Arsenal will be looking for a striker specially if the price reached in the range of something above 35m pounds because Wenga will think he already has Giroud so may be they wont think that Higuian or Lacazette will be an improvement over Giroud

Benteke does have movement and on the ball ability though.

Not nearly of the type or quantity we need, though. He's not in the least bit suited to the role he would be asked to play at LFC, and trying to shoe-horn him into it would hurt not only his performances but the entire team's.

Well even if he is available for 10m i have doubts considering his talents, that our Transfer Committee would ever be able to pull this off.

Kovacic won't cost an arm and a leg. Inter are looking at somewhere higher than €20m probably around €25m mark which considering the exchange rate at the moment between the British pound and the Euro is probably the best time to do business around Europe. That's around £18m which most likely should get the job done. We paid about the same for Joe effing Schmoe 3 years ago.
