Rest as many players possible. I'm all for winning something and the FA Cup seems nice, but League position is more important. Besides, some of the players do need to do something to earn their wages. My choice would be,

If Henderson and Coutinho are not starting, I'll be happy with the XI no matter what it is. Those two deserve a rest.

agreed with Art. For a change play Can and Gerrard togehter, because I am really confused whether Gerrard will noe bw better in CAM or CM. Also, keep Studge on the bench and bring him for last 30 minutes or so. Give that scrub Lallana a chance here so that he can be rightly on the bench against Everton.

I think we can all agree on resting Henderson & Coutinho and bringing Sturridge as substitute.

They loaned out Spearing lulz.

Pratley got injured so thats one problem less, But they got some legit 19 yr old lad who scored 2 on his first career start.

Also they have conceded 6 in the last 2 games.

Well I don't expect that lineup either. I think only one of our usual three will be replaced (probably by Johnson).

I would start Skrtel and Sakho, they're our two best defenders and CBs don't need as much rest as midfielders and forwards, imo. I don't think it would be wise to mess with the defense that's working pretty well now. But Henderson and Coutinho need a rest, we've got more important games coming up and if those two are starting every game, we're taking a big risk on them getting fatigued or even injured from fatigue.

Seriously, FA Cup might just be the most realistic possibility of silverware this season. Arsenal and United the only two other big sides remaining and they really don't scare me at all (compared to playing City or Chelsea).

I'd love to rest players and this and that but tbh I'm just hoping for progression. Once we get this match out of the way then I say worry about players fitness for Everton.

Sturridge, for example, has to play. He's been out too long and the more he plays the sharper he gets. Don't think he'll be one complaining about fatigue anytime soon.

I also agree with Hank. This is probably the time to give the diamond another chance. We won't ever have a better chance than this game to do it. Shit opposition, lowest priority competition (compared to league and EL), only the 4th round. Nothing to lose really. It's not like we're in semis or anything.

Go straight back to the 3-4-2-1 for the derby in the weekend but try out the diamond one more time and see how Mario fits in with Deadly Dan.

Having said that would rest Coutinho and Sterling. Maybe Markovic as well. They've been playing too much. Start Lallana or Gerrard at the tip of the diamond.


If during the game we realize this shit ain't working, we can go back to our usual with the same players.


Perhaps maybe give fringe players a chance if say Lucas needs a rest. Rossiter game time wouldn't be the end of the world. Or heck even Allen (though I don't want to see that).

But have a feeling Brendan will rest too many players.

Another thing we can do is rest Stevie here and have him just start the derby. That way one of Coutinho or Sterling can play here and the other can partner Stevie behing Deadly Dan in the derby.

Given the depth of our squad at this point, and the team we are playing, there's no reason not to win this regardless of what line-up we field almost. I'd like to see Rossiter get some minutes in this game and maybe Ojo as well. Unfortunately Ibe is cup-tied. I'd go with this:


Bring on Sturridge again for 20 - 30 minutes, and maybe even give Balotelli a look with him.

Coutinho should have been rested, but at least Hendo doesn't start. Should be interesting to see how Gerrard and Allen do in CM. The BBC saying Bolton are missing 14 players, so this should be in the bag with that line up.

Sad to see Balotelli being completely ignored again.
