Don't know, but i remember Schweini used to play on the wings for Van Gaal. Albeit, it very well could be, as i've only seen Van Gaal's Bayern a couple of times in the CL lol

Because that's where he used to play but ultimately it was vG who put him into CM so that's certainly nothing he can be criticised for.

TBF Pep tried it as well. Ribery is a street thug so he intricacies of football elude him. LVG needs to use a 4231

Step 2: Play Herrera in place of Blind.

Step 3: Switch Di Maria and Rooney's position.

Final step: Dont be too much inventive! ( No need to change a GK before a penalty shoot out! )

Step 3 : Play AdM in place of Carrick. Play rooney as one of the 2 forwards.

its because he is still having those wet dreams about robben terrorizing teams in the world cup sprinting forward from a wide advanced position. Now The closest you can find in this team who can do that is naturally di maria. Same formation as Holland, same position and role as robben. The only problem is that its flopping big time, I mean that ploy.

But Di Maria is not even playing from an advanced wide position, he's play very central. In fact there are no wide-to-center movements at all, everyone just stays in the same static position and just moves forward and back.

Not true... he's not scorer and has said so himself. He's a winger through and through.

He has the ability Sport, according to Pep its just he couldn't wrap his head around playing in the middle, he needs the line behind him. It's not that ridiculous of a suggestion though, he has everything you'd need.

it's not ability... it's training, instincts and mentality.  Ribery has always looked to make the final pass, not score.  To be a scorer, you need to think and have scoring instincts.

Besides, one of Ribery's biggest attributes is his sheer speed and, putting him in the middle, he has no space.

It made absolutely zero sense ESPECIALLY since the player didn't want to move at all...  Ribery told the manager no and, when moved against his will, he rebelled against it.

This isn't a kid... he's an established star.

No, you need to have scoring instincts to be a scorer, or a traditional number 9. Not a false 9. Ribery has the dribbling, the vision, the passing, and the finishing to be successful in that position.

It's not like Van Gaal/Pep tried to turn him into Pippo 2.0

Funny how as soon as we change to a back four, we look much more threatening up front and created chances and instantly scored too. (exactly a min after he switched formation).
