To me a poacher is Inzaghi (not to slate him because he was insanely good at it) Kane isn't that, you don't turn Cahill and Terry inside out if you don't have a little more than just an ability to sniff out chances in the box.

Re: Harry Kane Appreciation Thread A.K.A Soldado's Death Sentence
you guys equate poaching to tap-ins... that's not it. For example, Romario was actually thought of as a poacher and he was HIGHLY skilled. It's not a knock. It's a style.
Problem is that all the gifted modern strikers are more well-rounded due to system changes so you're left with the technical greatness of Gomez as a poaching comparison
Back in my day, you had Careca, Romario, Ian Rush, etc. Supremely talented players who were in-the-box specialists. Had a lot to do with the 442 being prevalent.
I see Shearer as a fox-in-the-box striker too mole.

Kane is a type of striker you can build a team around imo. You can't do that with Chachadorrito etc who cant play outside the 18 yards box.

Van Nistelrooy is the prototype of a poacher from the players I've seen. A forward that can score loads mostly in the box without *bleep* up the general play.

In his latter years Shearer was a fox in the box yes although his back to goal game was Drogba like.
But that was only because he had two ACL injuries before that he was a lot more than that, he had to adjust his game due to injuries he was still great but never really the same.

I have to disagree, at least that's not how I see it. Romario especially as he was basically Rich Mans Aguero before Aguero existed.
My definition of a poacher is a lot different to that, Van Nistelrooy was a poacher it just seems like you are either a poacher or a well rounded footballer like Benzema with no inbetween.
I personally don't see it that way.

That touch for his second goal (I think) yesterday was absolutely sublime though.. it doesn't get more elegantly perfect than that.

Re: Harry Kane Appreciation Thread A.K.A Soldado's Death Sentence
I don't consider Kane a poacher at all. He can score from outside the box, inside the box, with his head, he has good interplay and some of his touches and movement are really nice. Like his goal against Liverpool was very nice, and he can play the 10 well also.
I feel like he's being a bit underrated just because he's English.

Well EPL players have little skill generally coming from the midfield... it's a lot of kick and run. Very direct play. So i can see why you guys would view Kane as a possible 10...

Why is RVN a poacher and Romario isn't? I'm curious. I considered Romario a poacher as well.

You are more clueless than Scooby Doo.
Define what you mean by 'quality' first.
lolwut

Benzema is just an average striker which is overrated on GL for god knows I don't know why. Put any decent striker in that Madrid team and he will more or less equate the numbers of Benz.
Quality? Don't you know what quality means? I was referring to Sports' post.

You clearly know very little about the sport if you think Benzema is an average striker.
Yes, but I want you to define what quality means. What is quality to you and what makes the EPL have more quality than La Liga?

First of all, I think I know some things quite well in life, let alone the sport of Football, and I know a lot of things come down to subjectivity, and yes my personal opinion on Benzema is that he isn't that good as many on here make him out to be. I may have exaggerated with labeling him as 'shit' but that's only my usual respone when it comes to the topic of him because it annoys me a bit that people say he is world class or great as I think it's crazy, but if people wish to believe that then I'm okay with it.
And then secondly, I did not say the quality of the EPL is better than La Liga. This was my sentence:
NOTE: that much betterSports making out as if the quality in Spain is that much better than it is in England

Re: Harry Kane Appreciation Thread A.K.A Soldado's Death Sentence
First of all it would probably help you to appreciate Benzema's class by actually watching him play.
Because no way in hell you've actually watch any of our games these past years, if that is your opinion of him.
Quality is hardly anything subjective in terms of sport. Beautiful football can be a subjective term, but if someone is a good/great footballer is not subjective. Benzema is top tier attacker in the world.
Can't wait for Chad tbh, gonna be a riot.

an average striker who will likely be in top 10 of goalscorers ( ALL TIME ) in the champions league this season

Benzema is at least twice the player those donkeys you have upfront are ( Giroud & welbeck ) .
and in what parallel universe is Benzema overrated on GL ?
