Re: The Guardian 100 2014
Well I think the list is missing Messi, Ronaldo, Aguero, Robben, Muller, Lahm, Neuer, Suarez, Neymar and Bale, so I assume it'll be those 10 not sure of order.

Re: The Guardian 100 2014
Top 10 is quite easy to be honest.
Ronaldo, Messi, Robben, Neuer, Müller, Lahm, Bale, Suarez, Neymar and Agüero. I'm dead certain about every one of them.
That'll mean Marcelo won't be in the top 100. No Gabi either. But of course we get Pique or Dani Alves or even Falcao who played like 10 games (considering minutes he played less than 10 full games lol) the whole year.
@Winter: Casillas is already in the list. 80s I think. Didn't see Müller and there's absolutely no way they don't include him at all.

Ahh Your right I missed that one.
I also agree don't know how Alves/Pique are there and not Gabi and Marcelo.

did bale do anything to merit a top 10 spot ? he was clutch for madrid in two important games , but overall i wouldn't put him anywhere near a top 10.

The list is shit, Oscar is above Matic and Mascherano is above T. Silva.
But hey, these lists are impossible to get 100% correct.

Marcelo does not deserve to be there. Gabi on the other hand... that is a glaring omission.zigra wrote:Top 10 is quite easy to be honest.

Re: The Guardian 100 2014
You don't think Marcelo should've at least made the list list? It's not as if he needs to be given a top spot but not even top 100? Considering some of the players in the list there's no doubt he should have tbh
But yeah it's nowhere near as bad as no Gabi of course.
Personally I think the major flaw of lists like that is that they include too many players for having a big name/what they've done in the past. If a guy can get into the list without even playing - what's the point?
Oh and somehow, I really don't know why, I get the feeling it favors players from the Premiere League

He was one of the most prolific players in football, on his off wing, in a new environment, and scored the Copa winner and the CL winner. Bale is a winner and one of the best players in the world. There are a lot of things they could have gotten wrong, but having him in the top 10 isn't one of them.

Re: The Guardian 100 2014
That list is clearly based on who the panel deems more talented and not necessarily on form for the calendar year. Because certainly Godin and Koke were more influential and in better form than the likes of Hazard, Iniesta, God damn Ramos (though I can excuse Ramos for that legendary equaliser).
They have Greaseman yet Vela is nowhere to be found. Hopefully Gabi is top 10 but I highly doubt. And apparently, only 1 South American based footballer is worthy of being mentioned.
Sigh, as the mod mentioned, no list is 100% accurate, this just continues the trend.

thats probably because silva didnt exactly cover himself in glory last season in CL, was a crying little girl in the world cup and has been crap this season.Kick wrote:The list is shit, Oscar is above Matic and Mascherano is above T. Silva.

Re: The Guardian 100 2014
I don't think the list from 30-100 was picked after some great debate or analysis. Think it was a rush job to quickly get to the top 30 which is probably all that matters to them. And I guess to most of the readers too.
Top 10 is straight forward. But Di Maria deserves Bale's spot in the top 10. Although, they are also counting the period from sep-dec so maybe that's why he dropped off.

Jerome Boateng should be much higher.
57th, behind *bleep* Cuadrado, Hummels and Kompany far ahead. It's kind of ridiculous if you think about it.

Re: The Guardian 100 2014
Why do people even waste time on these lists lol
It's all subjective, there's no real way to compare vastly different players and depending on who makes it there's always some *bleep* different criteria
I am all for getting *bleep* crazy mad at stuff but these footballing lists are just lol.

he's a Madrid fan favorite. nobody will ever give him credit. we should expect the majority of people saying that he wasn't great this season

Re: The Guardian 100 2014
Meh, all these lists are always terrible.
Thiis, imho, is less terrible than many others.
There are obviously flawed rankings in there, and you can pick most choices apart individually, but as a whole, the list doesn't smell as much of popularity contest as most others do.

1. Ronaldo
2. Messi
3. Neuer
4. Robben
5. Muller
6. Suarez
7. Neymar
8. Bale
9. Lahm
10. Aguero
Also agreed with RG that after the Top 30 the it just becomes a difference in opinion and is highly subjective.

First list I've seen with a GK being in the top 3. Deserved though. Also happy to see Robben at 4th.
Think Messi and Ronaldo equally had a great year. Should have been joint top.

Re: The Guardian 100 2014
That would have been such a cop out
They're treading the diplomatic "Messi is possibly the best player in history, but Cristiano the best player of 2014" line

Re: The Guardian 100 2014
Messi was a top 2 player at the biggest football tournament while Ronaldo has had a better season at club level. Probably would be a cop out but they were kinda equal lol.
Although I am fairly confident Balon d'Or is going to Ronaldo(deservedly). Journalists all over share the same opinion along with the captains of most clubs.
That's going to be the top 3 of Balon d'Or ranking. Unless Neuer comes second and Messi third.
