Agree completely with RG's assessment of Battle of the Five Armies. It was great, but just not as epic as it perhaps should've been.

What it did do is make me want to re-read the Silmarillion.

Meh, it's good don't get me wrong, but I don't think the "higher ups" / critics love it that much that it is going to win any awards, let alone one. And also, it came out very early this year. The later films get much more love in awards season.

And personally I don't think it should win anything really. It's a typical Wes Anderson movie and I don't see how he can win something for this when it isn't groundbreaking or something special.

The Immigrant btw, follows an unoriginal plot, but it is not flat and the acting is very good so it's worth one's time imo. I like period pieces when they aren't dull. Thumbs up

A more reasoned review.

This Fincher film starts of well and interesting, it grips you and it makes you want to know more instantly.

And what this movie does best is that it keeps you guessing all the time, because you never really know until the end if it is all just a game or not.
But that is also the film's downfall in my opinion. How so? Well, it stretches into the realms of unrealism and it avoids telling in detail the structure and meaning of this game, also, it doesn't detail the people behind the game as much as I wished it would.
I'm not a big Michael Douglas fan, he is good, but he isn't that good as some people say he is. Sean Penn was great in this, but he doesn't get much screen time. Rather, the film focuses on Douglas' character and how this story/game unfolds around him by each passing second.
It's a good film for that reason - a good thriller, and I'd recommend it, but I for one expected more.

My rating still stays the same though. For the very reason that I've seen thrillers before that are just as thrillish as this one.

The Frozen Ground- Decent flick based on a true story about an Alaskan serial killer who targeted prostitutes. Set in the early 80's. Starring Nicolas Cage, 50 cent and John Cusack. Some shakey camera work, dodgy editing, but some of the cinematography involving the Akaskan mountains as a backdrop are great. Shot mostly in dark settings, gives a gloomy and gritty feeling. Verdict 6/10

Open Windows- so so awful. Avoid at all costs. 0/10

lol. It's really awful.

I usually go on Torrent Butler (before it got blocked) and download any new movie that is out, without reading reviews and ratings.

1st red flag that this movie sucked was when shasha gray's name came up on the credits (no pun intended).

So I watched Battle Of The Five Armies. Obviously there were some major flaws (I was the minority who did not mind Tauriel on Desolation Of Smaug but now I wish she never existed) but overall I loved it.

Nightcrawler was excellent. Bloom's (Gyllenhaal) psychopathic drive to succeed and his exploitation of the news director's (Russo) vulnerability was extremely disturbing. The score could've been better and I thought it sounded almost uplifting in scenes where Bloom was doing things that were disgusting and immoral. Also, the plot is quite slow in the build-up but the climax really hits hard. I'm reluctant to give a numerical rating, but I'd definitely recommend seeing this film.

The trailer was deceiving to say the least. I was completely taken aback as to how everything unfolded. Good movie. Some amazing performances.

Had the same facial expressions throughout the movie. Laughing Better than his other shit performances but still leagues behind what Carell and Ruffolo did
