Which side will win?
Re: Third place playoff: Brazil 0-3 Netherlands discussion
Hulk vs Robben.
I'd like to see a Jo vs Messi next.

FIFA.com has Müller vs Messi, but that belongs in the Final thread.elitedam wrote:I'd like to see a Jo vs Messi next.

Same thing for Italy 90 despite the most matches were boring (great atmosphere, great players but for the rest the show was basically boring ...) . Basically there are good matches to watch , the players want to leave well a tournament who will play in 4 years if they are lucky.

1.5 pages of discussion 30 minutes before kick-off, that importance & interest of third-place play-offs... #scrapit
Just put 100 euros on Holland to win in normal-time to make this interesting (3.25 odds).

On paper being the 3rd best team at a World Cup should mean something, you think of the hundreds of non-qualified teams then the 29 teams who finished below you.
But in reality, we're all used to Cup competitions being divided between the winners and everybody else. So nobody really cares about it.

Yet over half of the voters in this thread seem to care about it:

Well, I still remember the two 3rd place matches of Germany fondly as they were good matches, and in 2006 the German NT was celebrated by the public even despite the big disappointment of missing the final at home.

Yet GL is completely dead right now
Discussions about this match beforehand and during it says all you need to know really.

Because it's fun watching.Just not worth a discussion since it's worth nothing.3rd place match games are normally more fun to watch than the final and the final always get's more attention.just because no one is discussing doesn't mean people don't want to view it.in reality these 3rd place matches are football at it's finest since the result doesn't matter

Re: Third place playoff: Brazil 0-3 Netherlands discussion
Yes, people don't think it's worth discussing. Nobody is denying they can be good entertainment/fun to watch etc
But it's pretty much pointless, and LVG & co who are actually involved feel the same way. Brazil actually have a point to prove on their home turf but beyond that, a lot of players clearly don't want this.

dem mind games
he wants the silverware after all

De Guzman apparently replaces Sneijder in the lineup.

I think the 3th & 4th placed teams can be celebrated regardless of the result of this pointless play-off. Sure, it can be a game of fun football, but I don't warm up to friendlies / meaningless games and this is just that.

So, Tom's saying there what I think, too.

Wesley Sneijder looked to have muscular problems as he was hobbling back through the tunnel after warm up.Yohan Modric wrote:De Guzman apparently replaces Sneijder in the lineup.

The ref is merciful and only gives Thiago Silva a yellow.

I'm thankful he only handed out a yellow. This isn't an important match, game would have been dead. Fans just want a spectacle.

I have to say I would find it pretty OFF-PUTTING if Holland managed a higher victory against Brazil than us
