Summer of 2014: Part 2 - Page 3 Empty Re: Summer of 2014: Part 2

Post by Curtinho Tue Jul 08, 2014 1:53 pm

Red Alert wrote:Playing a midfield trio of Henderson, Can and Gerrard would be horrible and wouldn't work at all.

Based on what?

Can and Henderson have similar qualities in that they both seem to have tireless engines, are great at pressing and can cover a ton of ground. Henderson is more economical with his passing and creates more scoring opportunities that way while Can likes to run with the ball a bit more and challenge the opposition. They would complement eachother well in midfield with the sheer amount of pressure they would put on the other team.

I never said he wouldn't improve, again I said he had potential. But we're spending 20m for potential. We have a lot of "potential" at the club and I don't really want to get into this debate again, as I don't think you'll convince me otherwise. We need quality. And instead of signing quality, we're wasting our time on "for the future" and for depth when the present / what we do now actually determines where our future will be. We won't make top 4 the way we're going, I guarantee it. What's the future look like then when our best players become "mercenary's" for wanting to leave to fight for silverware?

The thing is that we have quality. Sturridge, Coutinho, Sterling, Henderson, Allen are all still young, growing players. Sterling looks to be on the verge of becoming one of the next big stars of football with what he's shown at his age. Coutinho also has star potential and really Sturridge is already there if he can maintain consistency. Lallana is a guy who had a great season and if he can bring some of that with him to Liverpool is another quality player right now. I'm sure that more signings are on the way to help the team right now (still a lot of money left), but even with the team we have I would be confident of making top 4. The only thing that bothers me is that they are being too complacent about the fullback situation, especially with all the money they have to throw around they should be after someone like Rodriguez, but it is what it is.

Former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner is expected to move to a new club within days and "there is interest from clubs in England, Germany and Spain."

Don't miss the boat Rodgers.

I wouldn't say that, they're probably our best hope still to get Reina's wages off our books... I don't know about Lucas, though, I'm thinking we should keep him in case Gerrard gets injured / can't play every game.

Looks like Sanchez to Arsenal is going to happen, that's a massive disappointment for me...

@RA, comparing the situation of Lallana and Downing-Carroll..haha no need to discuss it further.

And I think we are still in rebuilding phase and we have not yet established us a fav for top 4. Losing Suarez was part of that, i was expecting that either we were going to lose him either in this summer or next. So now we have lost him so that is what eactly it is that we have to build it again.

By career start I mean, Suarez scored 11 goals and 3 assists in 11/12 season, off course those are good stats for the first season. So what I am saying is if these new signings can provide that much, I will be happy enough. I think Lallana specially, I am expecting him to provide min that much.

But one thing I agree with is, we have not always bought experienced players eg. Lallana. But specially when Suarez is gone, I am totally expecting that we will sign one more player, someone like Suarez from other league, by similar I mean, a player in similar situation as Suarez at Ajax.

He also says...Can/Hendo/Gerrard midfield will be horrible when it is a very good combination when you want a solid midfield. I know it wont be as creative as Gerrard/Hendo/Coutinho but it would be a very good cobination to have. Can in that position is surely better than Allen.

But I dont think he has seen Can enough to judge his creativity. He is very neat with the ball and can play some brilliant creative passes.

Yeah, I'm definitely believing a Hendo - Gerrard - Can midfield will be seen this season and it shouldn't be too bad on paper, we'll see how Emre does.

It's amazing how RedAlert thinks Emre-Hendo-Gerrard midfield doesn't work, whereas a defensively more vulnerable version of this (Cou-Hendo-Gerrard) was our midfield in majority of our best performances in the league last season.

Don't underrate Allen...he's legitimate. Our midfield will slowly move towards mainly Henderson/Allen/Can/Coutinho as the season progresses and Gerrard wears down/gets injured. It's not a bad thing either, I think a midfield of Henderson Allen/Can as a double pivot and Coutinho on the tip in the 4-3-3 could be our best option this year.

Was I not on ignore Sepi? And you continue to make shit up to try and get your point across. Proud Please tell me where I've said he's shit please. Enlighten me. I said he was inconsistent because he is. He hasn't even broken through as a regular at Benfica ffs.

That midfield has no balance at all. We'll struggle to break teams down with it. Can and Hendo doing the same role would be stupid. We need players to step and score goals with Suarez gone. So you play 2 box to box players who are both kinda average in the box? You'd make Moyesie proud. Proud

Mundo Deportivo saying that the Suarez fee will be only £58m:

BBC Sportsday wrote:Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona have negotiated a fee of of between 70 and 73m euros (£55.6m-58m) for the transfer of Uruguay striker Luis Suarez from Liverpool.

The fee represents a reduction of 20m euros on the 27-year-old's buyout clause according to the paper.

I've no idea about their reliability.

Well, if L'Equipe is right I would imagine that is referring to James Rodriguez.

I think he wants a move to La Liga though, not the EPL. Otherwise I would say we should be all over that...even overbid on him to ensure we get him.

For all of you DM obsessives.

Last night, a team without a DM, beat a team that started with 2 DMs (Fernandinho n Gustavo) 7-1.

DM =/= Defensive stability. DMs are a dying breed and thank god for that. horrible players.

I'm not that interested in a DM, but a defensively responsible playmaker, or two engines playing as a double pivot is fine for me. Henderson - Can/Allen would be really nice for an attack minded team moving forward I think.

Anyway, saw this:
AC Milan offer El Shaarawy to Real Madrid, according to El Confidencial. €20m would be the starting price for him.
I hope that Rodgers at least tries to get in on this if they are willing to sell. We've been linked with him before, and he'd be amazing if healthy.
