Re: Summer of 2014: Part 2
I am nt really worried, about attacking options although it would be brilliant if we can that spark. But we can really wait until jan instead of signing some name as of now. In Jan who knows someone might pop up, by which probably other clubs wont be interested in such a player. So it is better to wait.
I am more worried about how BR will manage the existing defenders and thw signing we may make aka Lovren.

Reina's release fee is 3.95m pounds. Liverpool expect him to leave by the end of the window. (Bascombe)

Don't call me James wrote: We can't do the same thing we did last season and go for our 3rd/4th choice targets like Cissokho, Moses, Aspas because we couldn't bag our first options.
Aspas wasn't a first option signing, really?
And Moses and Cissokho came on loan, and at the end of the window. Signing them was the right thing to do? It's not like we CHOSE to get them over our first targets...

El Cujo wrote:I just don't see it with Moreno, but I trust Rodgers.
Anyway, this is nice to hear, and basically what I've said before anyway (that really what we were lacking was depth to begin with). With that said I would still prefer to drop a load of cash on Ricardo Rodriguez, but of the players available out there he's the only one I would open up the wallet for that we could realistically (in theory) get.
Otherwise better to wait until winter to see what's going on, or even next summer. The money isn't going to disappear.
Keep screaming for him dude, we won't get him. lol
Be prepared to sign someone like Bertrand...

Transfer rumours round up:
Metro feeling sorry for Liverpool fans they try to tap Shaqiri for us.
Coady will be promoted to the first team after officially leaning at Boston.
Reina, Agger, Johnson having coffee together being photo bombed by one of the horsemen of the apocalypse. This no doubt shows the trio's future at the club looks very grim.
That's a wrap.

There have been reports circulating for a while that Liverpool have been interested in Vidal, and Rodgers has always said he wants more goals from midfield. He has also ruled out a move to Manchester, but refused to commit his future to Juventus. Could be interesting.According to a chilean newspaper, Liverpool has offered 54M€ for Vidal.

Now we have got Remy, I am thinking it would make sense to go for Vidal. After Vidal, our MF can be in top 3...i like the thought process here

Re: Summer of 2014: Part 2
If we get Moreno for the price Seviila want that's going to be some expensive back line:
Mignolet (9m)
Johnson (17.5) - Lovren (20m) - Sakho (18m) - Moreno (20m)
Johnson (17.5) - Lovren (20m) - Sakho (18m) - Moreno (20m)

James Pearce @JamesPearceEcho 2 mins
Remy deal will be announced in next few days. Passed his medical. Just slight hold up over paperwork. Origi is in Boston for his medical.

The initial fee of £16m is to be paid to Southampton, with the rest (£4m) increasing via various add-ons. (Bascombe)

Agger-Skrtel have been around for ages...it's time for some fresh blood in that back line. We've only won one trophy with Agger-Skrtel in 7 years. Surely can't do worse without them ?!

We'll judge them when they play. As a partnership Sakho-Lovren might just be great who knows.
But first verdict is that I'm not much impressed by this signing or that partnership.

Re: Summer of 2014: Part 2
I'm happy with the Lovren signing. I think it will bring stability and consistency to the back that Skrtel can't provide. A Lovren - Sakho centre pair to me is better by a fair margin than a Skrtel - Sakho one. As James said though...we'll see how it goes.
Not really keen on the supposed '40m euro' bid for Gaitan that is floating around out there. He isn't an elite player and he just adds to a position of depth where we already have better players than him...40m euros would be insanity for that IMO.

Re: Summer of 2014: Part 2
To be fair they were all signed for depth, and they were their three best players (well, I guess you could argue against Lambert, but 13 goals and 10 assists is still pretty quality for a back-up striker).

For 50m also. It's all just comical really. Not that individually they are not good. But when you look at them as a batch of 3 for 50m you can only laugh

- From relegated WiganArt Morte wrote:I'd be quite happy to start the season with what we've got right now, but have more depth so we could try different approaches.
Reina
Johnson - Skrtel - Agger - Enrique
Gerrard - Lucas - Henderson
- - - - - Coutinho - - - - -
Sturridge - Suarez
Some players who'd provide good depth and competition for starting places and alternative tactics & formations:
Micah Richards
Andy Carroll
Raheem Sterling
Jonathan de Guzman
Davide Santon
Shaun Maloney
Ali Al-Habsi
Callum McManaman
Mohamed Diame
Steven Nzonzi
I'd like to see a few of those names on our squad list next season.
I don't watch that much other leagues, so don't really know what sort of players would be available from abroad.
Alternative XI !
Al-Habsi
Richards - Skrtel - Agger - Santon
McManaman - Gerrard - Nzonzi - Sterling
Suarez
Carroll
