That's a very bold prediction. I mean perhaps no one has questioned Brazil more than me but I wouldn't dare make that prediction.

That is certainly not ruled out especially at this world cup. The trick is predicting which ones will be upsets. We could easily predict an upset that turns out to be a comfortable victory for the favourite and vice versa.
BTW WC 2002 was called a world cup of shocks after three big teams exited at the group stage. WC 2014 has outdone even that with four exiting. WC 2002 then had one more major casualty in the second round. How many will fall this time!

Re: Predict the semifinalists
Germany/France vs. Brazil
Argentina vs. Netherlands/Greece
That's my first thought. Now need to make it more exact. In the first one it's so difficult to choose. Before Ribery got injured I was backing France but now I am more confused. I do doubt the mental strength of this generation of Germans and don't see them winning the tournament. So on a whim I'll stick to what I predicted before the tournament began and go with France.
On the second one it really has to be Netherlands. There are two major fears though. One is that Greece can overachieve scarily and have started showing some signs of Euro 2004. I can't see them going beyond the semi finals because the world cup is quite different from a Euro and the final is almost invariably between big teams no matter how many upsets may have preceded it. For teams like the Netherlands playing against such a team could get very frustrating and that's when pressure could tell on them. The other problem is Netherlands sometimes fizz out after starting great. We all remember their outstanding beginning to Euro 2008 only to be hopelessly underwhelming against Russia in the quarter final. Still just because they have done so well so far and because I really want to see them play my team I will go with them.
So my final predictions work out to :-
France vs. Brazil
Argentina vs. Netherlands
Argentina vs. Netherlands/Greece

Long before the tournament began I said that would be the final and for years now I have been saying this tournament is Messi's date with destiny. If both these turn out to be true I'll really fancy myself as a soothsayer.

Imagine the deception when the final suddenly is Germany vs Netherlands...

Re: Predict the semifinalists
By the way, for the ones who consider Germany's performance in the group stage too weak and thus think it is unlikely for us to proceed much further - I think you should consider that we played in Salvador, Fortaleza and Recife, three of the locations with bad conditions for Europeans of the cooler climates and thus our team tried to preserve energy whenever possible.
That was also why it was never an option to risk becoming second in our group as now the next stadium to play in is Porto Alegre which has a better climate for us to play in than the other option (Salvador).
Here's a nice chart with the stadiums (=Stadien), their location and the climate (=Klima) they are in: http://tinyurl.com/o9u2728

Actually this has happened before. In WC 2006 for instance people were eagerly anticipating an Argentina vs. Brazil final but it turned out to be Italy vs. France instead.
Re: Predict the semifinalists
At this stage, I'd go for: Colombia/(France or Germany, I still don't know, maybe I will decide after today's game) and Netherlands/Argentina.

Re: Predict the semifinalists
We'd probably get Netherlands/Argentina but the other half is too difficult to call.
Colombia are playing great and Brazil have no Gustavo for the next game and possibly injured Neymar.
Both France and Germany have great squads capable of lifting the trophy so it's way too close to call IMO.
Any of the 4 can reach the semis. Belgium have not taken off and I think Messi does not have a couple of big performances in him to take Argentina past Switzerland and Belgium atleast.

Sorry posted this comment in the wrong thread. I meant getting them correct before the tournament started which is anyway there in another thread. Here even I got three correct.
